Do you hate meetings?

I don't like many meetings and love working in my focus time. But because of the work commitment, half of the time goes into the meetings. Do you also have a hate-and-love relationship with meetings?

I think meetings are fine as long as the agenda is clearly defined and it's something that does truly require a conversation and not an email :) What I try to do is block a chunk of at least 3 hours or so everyday on my calendar so that i get continuous desk time for my deep work and no meetings interfere with it. It's been a game changer TBH

I don't like in-person meetings, but I don't like virtual meetings. More often than not, I need to give myself a pep talk before joining a virtual one.

It depends. If you are working in a remote company where everyone sets their schedule (so communication is mostly async), then meetings are the best way to make decisions faster. I feel that meetings are a waste of time usually in businesses where people (especially management) are evaluated by the time they spend not the success metrics. They like to fill in their calendars to look busy. And, of course, they take the people who are actually busy down with them.

I like smaller meetings that are more of a discussion and not just informing. Informing should be via message & discussions should be via meetings.

Agreed, I also hate meetings, especially when there are too many people involved. In my opinion, they're often a waste of time in most cases.

I like meetings as long as there is an agenda and not just "Sync". One thing we are driving at OurSails is to having a clear set agenda and a more collaborative space to communicate the initial context before the meeting. Most people don't need to be apart of the meeting but need to hear the outcomes which is the pain point we are solving. Our small but mighty team uses it solely as our internal communication, content strategy, reoccurring meetings, and personal spaces.

No I like them! But they have to be productive

I like meetings. In our small team, we just do meetings when we really need it. I think especially in bigger companies there are too many people in meetings and sometimes it's kind of wasted time, because you can handle the topics more efficient. On the other hand it brings some transparency with it.

Hate-and-love vice-versa. Sharing things that I have thought of, is a good time for team. Sometimes we push the lagging button in the meeting which is tedious but the talk is still remaining and valid in Notion. I think that's why they named their product as Notion after they had experienced the thoughtful time lag.

lol I smiled when I saw this.. I don't think it's a hate. I think it's more so of frustration when you think a meeting is not needed and you have other meetings/tasks as a higher priority. Overall, I think most meetings are very beneficial
