Not sure about that, but gotta try some AI design tool to forge an opinion. As an UI and UX designer a lot of work is in comprehending the user need, business rules, work objectives and translate them in a comprehensive and useful yet simple UI. By the way we are live today, come show your support !

For now, it can replace below-average. The better ones probably in 10 years
Just like in any profession, AI can't replace designers but will make them more productive

It won't replace the good ones. It will replace the below average ones

Most of those who offer their services on the market certainly yes. Truly good ones, which, unfortunately, are not so many, will not be replaced soon.

It will soon enough replace structures on websites but not UI. We all expect to be original and different from our competitors and AI do not get trends and how people's behave at the moment so not yet to me!

Definitely not, but it can help with idea generation!

@dennis_aronov I would totally agree. Is my go to tool to generate and blend ideas as a starting point of many projects.

I am in the automotive industry, and I've wondered the same thing. I think right now it can serve as a tool, long way from replacing a designer.

No, I think AI can not have creativity.

So far all the demos I've seen look fantastic (for all the platforms around offering AI-generated *anything*), meanwhile when I try the stuff myself, somehow it ends up being & looking really... eh. 🫣 But to answer your question - I'd say sure it can, for a lot of scenarios. It won't bring "innovation" though cause after all it's trained on past / already existing work. But probably for most cases this doesn't matter. However fully replace the designer as in the job being abolished? Not until the AI has a life of its own - to be creative in the real sense, not just patch work from 100 sources - which it doesn't (yet).

It will eventually. Not any time soon, but it will get there.

We all know that AI is gaining more and more credit and it has already replaced certain jobs to a great extent. The most obvious one is perhaps blog writing which is done by Chat GPT in many companies. Google use to have a nice motto which said "content written by people and for people" Yesterday, it was changed to "content for people". You get the message. AI is spreading its claws every business sector. It's only a matter of time before it gets you.

Creativity is an important aspect of designing. Even as AI evolves I don't think it can match the level of humans when it comes to creativity. However, we can assist AI in our work to improve the efficiency of our tasks.

Personally, I see it as a new tool to free me up from repetitive tasks and allow me focus on tasks that create the most value. AI improves productivity however mindless use decreases the quality of the output. I believe our ability to use it mindfully with a clear orientation in producing quality output will be an immersive design skill.
