Building to sell fast is becoming a viable strategy in the saas world?

We all know the common adage that if you are not in it for the long haul, you are doing it wrong in the start-up world. Recently there has appeared a new model where you can build a saas business and get some traction and have the option to sell it in a microaquisition. I've been seeing this more often especially with the recent ai wave. Do you think its still necessary to put in 10 years in order to succeed?
