What are some of the best ways to get first customers? I'm planning on doing some adwords campaigns shortly, and have listed my app on Product Hunt.

Hey Scott, It depends on your business. If you are b2b, it may be best to start with cold out reach to really establish a 1 on 1 relationship in the beginning. This can also help you iterate from feedback you receive from your day one customers. Aside from manual outreach, Google ads or social media ads are a great way to get clicks to your page. Its also is important to do SEO! (start building this for the long term) In the end, your customers are everything! So its important to be close to your first few. Make sure they are the right customers though! Sometimes listening to the wrong customers can be detrimental to your product / service.

I'd really hone down your ideal custom avatar if you're going to start with targeted ads. I personally would lean more towards more cost effective guerrilla marketing tactics and start really existing in online ecosystems where your users are already. Slack channels - discords - twitter discourse - FB groups. Find the people that would benefit from your service and get them interested. Once theres some buzz - then I'd pivot to paid. Different strokes tho!

Social Media Content Marketing :)
Partnering with influencers or bloggers who have an audience that aligns with your app's target users. Their endorsement can carry a lot of weight. Also, Writing guest posts for industry-related websites or blogs. This can position you as an expert and direct interested readers to your app.
