1. Have a THICK skin and be prepared to take things with a grain of salt. It's a wild west as people are protected  by anonymity.

2. Join a sub reddit you like/has your target customer in. answer questions genuinely and give critical, detailed well placed advice. The type you would like, not just 'great!' actually be helpful! When you spend time and build up your karma (like points here i guess) people will respect your efforts, plus you start to see the same handles.

3. I would be wary of those who have been on for ages and have very little post karma - they are mostly spectators and dont really engage in the community.

4. Don't just sell or promote, or give advice and give a shameless plug at the end of your advice. Reddit is basically the new quora/google in my eyes. You can search ANYTHING and get a great response to your question.

5. Don't direct message people.....they do not like it. Ask on a thread they have commented on - it's just etiquette!

6. Be nice - too many people are just negative and like to put people down....you don't know whos behind the screen or what they are going through sooooo just being a nice person will make reddit better one comment at a time.
