Yes and the best or worst depends in part on us too, especially our Governments! While AI would most likely eat more jobs than it would create but it will definitely take industrial and commercial output to the next level. I am not an economist but this should also lead to huge wealth creation. The question how is this distributed! It may lead to further massive widening of wealth gap. We as a society and government need to make sure that wealth gap should be reduced by program like minimum income guarantee. Btw, it won't be as simple as it sounds! The above thoughts doesn't take into account the Skynet scenario. :P Now, the more scary scenario : Skynet! Well, I guess if you need to fight Skynet you need to become superhuman. But, how? Let's get ready for some crazy but realistic Sci-fi! So, there are two existing technology (that I am aware of) which could make us super-humans may be within the next 50 yrs: 1. Artificial brain : Numenta ( https://www.numenta.com/ ) is working on artificial brain based on our brain. If such a brain can be used as an extension of our existing brain, we may become super-smart. Although I think more than developing the brain, the integration would be challenging. Btw, Its just my idea that Numenta brain can be used as an extension of our brain. As far as I know, they don't intend to do so. 2. CRISPR - Its a scalable gene editing tech that has been existing for sometime. The administration can be as simple as an injection (shot). There has already been evidence of CRISPR being used to making mouse which can emit light from its body and mouse with their ageing reversed. Very Interesting discussion Antoni! At the moment, there's a lot of fear surrounding AI and the possibility of AI replacing a chunk of human jobs. But what's often not spoken about is the opportunities that AI can create for us, in the form of new and more value driven jobs, which therefore increase the momentum of progress for humanity. IMO, It all depends on how we can capitalise on this opportunity! I was just reading the Future of Jobs 2023 report published by the WEF, It was noted that, AI can boost productivity by performing more tedious tasks but cannot replace the more "human" skills such as critical thinking, creativity and empathy. People could have more satisfying and quality jobs that involve uniquely "human skills" and we can let AI do the grunt work. Overall, this could improve our quality of life. Ofcourse, this depends on how much we are open to change.
