AI is overrated. Tools and products are marketing themselves as "AI powered" just for the sake of it

Since the craze for "AI powered" started, i have seen 100s of tools coming into the market which are tagged as AI. Though its a good opportunity for solving multiple problems and market gaps, smart people out there are struggling to build everything around AI just because the market is demanding for it. Its like "Intel inside" campaign that we use to see when we were kids, which allowed intel to put their processors in every house hold computer. The only difference is, most of the problems that are being solved by so called AI, can easily be solved without the help of the :powered by AI" tag.

I agree with you on the fact that many Saas are launching or adding new feature to be trending, however for specific tasks AI can be really helpful.

@arthur_leclercq agreed. But 90% of the tools or features that are being called as AI powered does not need AI to build something like that. In fact, products that are built without AI are more reliable. For example, we really dont need an AI powered projector management tool or something with AI for parsing a file, which traditional parsers do much better job IMO

Got your point. AI should be about genuine innovation and problem-solving, not just a marketing gimmick.

@pratheek_adi1 . Precisely. We dont need AI to solve simple stuff like when you need to drink water or how to write an email. I mean, there are 1000s of tools that were solving this without AI with much better accuracy.

A large problem with this is people are pumping out very surface level AI features just to have it. They’re very hit or miss depending on the use case and more of a marketing ploy. However there are some tools coming out where the devs put the time in to make a valuable tool that provides value to its users like Jasper. Our product utilizes AI. We were scheduled to launch a few months ago but ended up delaying that to further develop features and extend our beta period - and it was absolutely worth it. It has been an unimaginable amount of extra work, but we now have a product that is much further ahead than many of the alternatives. Anyone can set up a basic feature using the open ai API, but very few want to actually build something out that is a truly useful, adaptable tool. The market has become very saturated with these basic “AI Powered Tools” and is contributing to the negative connotation many people associate with AI. At the end of the day, it’s here to stay and if you’re willing to put in the work to build something useful the plethora of mediocre tools will benefit you once you start gaining traction as AI is becomes more widely accepted.

@claytonwalker , cant say it better. Adding to this, its not just building surface level AI features, its also about is it right to build something. For example, new google smartphones use AI to make the person in the photo smile even when they are not smiling. Imaging someone using this feature for fun to make someone smile in situations they should not be and post it out on the media platforms as a joke. Its already hard to differentiate between whats genuine and whats adulterated. AI is a very powerful tool and a weapon. Playing around with it just for the sake of putting something out as "Powered by AI" is not something the world needs or deserves IMO. By the way, all the best for your launch.

AI may be the trendy new kid on the block, but let's be real - not every tool labeled as "AI powered" is the next Einstein of algorithms. It's like putting a fancy hat on a potato and calling it a gourmet dish!
