I started using Semrush pretty consistently in the past year and am continually blown away by the information it digs up.
In the past, I was always told Ahrefs was the best for backlinks, Semrush was best for PPC, and Moz was the best for SEO, but I feel like they all offer similar functionality these days.
I think what separates Semrush from the others, at least for me, is their content marketing toolkit. It's handy to see trending topics and organize the cards when I'm doing content planning, and their writing assistant is always filled with good suggestions—not just longtail keywords to hit, but shorter words and phrases that give the content I'm creating more authority.
That said, it is expensive (they did a recent price hike in Canada—something to do with taxes), so I think beginners could probably benefit from using some of Moz's free tools first.
A big shout out to each of the companies for all the content I create, though. I'm subscribed to the Moz Top 10 and Ahrefs newsletters, and they always find great articles to share and create some great in-house guides (same with Semrush—their courses are super easy to understand and more accessible than their written tutorials, which are a bit more exhaustive).
@matthew_ritchie I agree, these folks really are helping us keep up to speed with everything we need to know about SEO. Free tools are great to start off with - and investment makes sense as soon as we start scaling (assuming time is a resource to circumvent hacks to keep the money investment low ;) ).
Thanks for sharing your experience!
If you want ideas for more content or backlinks, go with ahrefs.

Moz is a useful SEO tool that provides a full range of SEO functions at a reasonable price. But we use Ahrefs and Semrush because they are more advanced and include content marketing features.
I use SEMRush but am considering Ahrefs, I believe it's better for backlinks
Semrush is good for Website Audit and Onpage SEO. Ahrefs is best for keyword Research and Competitor Analysis in my opinion.
I Started with SEMrush but these days my go-to-tool is Agency Dashboard.
All three tools - Ahrefs, Moz, and SEMrush - are popular and useful for SEO purposes. Each tool has its strengths and weaknesses, depending on the specific needs of the user. Ahrefs is known for its backlink analysis, Moz for its comprehensive keyword research, and SEMrush for its all-around features. Ultimately, the choice of which tool to use depends on the individual's preferences and the project's requirements. Nowadays, I am using SEMrush for working on my client's website (https://bikeoure.com/post-mount-...), and I find it to be a valuable tool for optimizing their online presence.
