We're building a community that we use too. So, we're often in a session, listening to music with the users and try to observe their behaviour/what they're saying.
Other than that, we have a Discord server with a separate channel for feedback from the core community. Before pushing out updates, we speak to them about our plans and try to understand their opinions and reactions.

Hello, curious to know how y'all kept in touch with friends and family over the pandemic, if you did any activities etc together?

This is bang - on!
The key to Reddit marketing is to add genuine value to users. We do this by finding people with the the exact problem we are solving and the platform enables this because of the way search and keyword phrasing works.
For example - at Lishash, a problem we are solving is of choice overload when it comes to social-music. A lot of users complain and speak of their experiences...
If you guys are not using reddit for marketing you should! Here are some tips.

There's often so much noise, that we often feel compelled to adopt certain methods, styles and voices of communication. Instead, we need to build a strategy ground up; starting with what your brand is, what it tries to evoke and then going micro about the nitty gritties of the platforms, communications pegs.
