Congrats on launching this tool!
The way we organize and annotate documents, objects, and collections on and off the web is long overdue for a significant redesign. Dropbox and Google Drive are simply replicas of the MacOS Finder or Windows Explorer, which can result in a cluttered mess. Tools like Notion or ClickUp are excellent for organizing thoughts, but they don't prioritize the capturing, clipping, and sharing process, which is essential for my curation process and likely yours as well. The Beam Browser demonstrated an elegant solution for clipping or inspecting blocks of content from the web, so I'm pleased to see that Fabric’s browser extension incorporates this pattern.
Fabric’s organisation features like the semantic search and deep linking back to a source fragment are impressive. Similar tools like Hypthes.is, Pocket, Memex Garden, and Additor have been available for some time, so it will be interesting to see how the AI capabilities and sleek UX of Fabric will set it apart.
One tiny piece of feedback:
- In the onboarding flow: set the link to install the browser extension to open a new tab
Just got access to beta and so far enjoying the experience a lot. I remember myself thinking about making a product like this, and I'm super happy to see Fabric take it the next level.
I tried it out and like it but got some feedback for you. The written notes should support formatting and embeds however, without that it gets pretty tedious to write some stuff
Your hard work and perseverance have paid off with the successful launch of your new product. Congratulations on this milestone achievement!
really appreciate your efforts on the AI search engine.
This looks amazing! Just signed up and installed the Chrome extension. Can't wait to start using it! Seems to be a bug in trying to sign-in to the desktop app. But all in all, love the UI and the onboarding experience so far!
I'm enjoying my experience with Fabric. However, here are a few suggestions that could enhance the user experience:
1. Text editor for notes.
2. Tasks feature
3. Android and iOS Apps
4. Adding more customization options for the user interface would be a nice touch.
Excited to find out about this. I have 2 questions. One) how does it work together with my Notion second brain and Two) how does it work collectively on internet drives like gdrive, box, pcloud? I may have missed the relevant tutorials. TQ.
Fabric is a very fluid experience. I cannot wait for it to blossom into a contender for the #1 second brain. The idea of a universal home is welcomed in this age of cyber clutter. I for one am a digital hoarder of note. (For the Hoarde! if you get it then we lolled together and if you didn't then read on) I want, nay, need a warehouse with an inventory system that rivals Shamazon's in order to organise my messy mind. Fabric could be that. It really could. With a little polishing, some minor tweaking under the hood and a long, hard look at their security and privacy black hole, Fabric is destined for big things. I have taken it upon my inner Karen to send a formal review to the Fabric team with my honest feedback. I hope they gain something from it. Onwards and upwards!
EDIT: There wasn't an article on Medium so I took it upon myself to rectify that. Have a read if you feel for it: https://medium.com/@dankdarkhors...
