Hey Product Hunt!
Johnny here from Fabric 👋
We're quite nervous, very happy, and insanely proud to launch Fabric on PH today!
It's a huge milestone for our team, our early users, and all tab hoarders out there
⮑ Why?
We built Fabric because we're all drowning in data.
Cluttered computer desktops, infinite screenshot folders, ancient file hierarchies, bookmarks we never look at... it's a mess. Sharing and collaborating is no better – content gets buried in group chats and emails, and the experience still feels disjointed and primitive.
⮑ What is Fabric?
Fabric is the start of something new:
A self-organizing home for your digital world, that works just like your mind.
🧠 It's your digital second brain – all your stuff in one place
🔍 Find anything again with AI semantic search
📝 It's a fully annotatable filesystem, make notes for your future self
💬 Collaborate on top of anything in Fabric, or in shared folders
You can even capture directly into Fabric, so you don't ever need to break your flow.
Built for speed and minimalism. Life's too short to do digital tidying.
Fabric supports markdown, can store any type of file, any piece of internet content.
It's the first truly unified storage – files and internet content together.
Designed for busy makers and thinkers like you!
Move faster and think better. Together.
I hope you like it! And will be around all day to answer any Q's 💥
Thanks for being a part of our early journey 🙂
@johnny_makes Hey! Congrats on the launch! I'm definitely a tab hoarder. I've tried to use Pocket in the past for bookmarking articles, but now I split links, files, and notes in three separate apps. It's definitely confusing!
I like your positioning of Fabric being your "digital memory bank." I'm excited to give it a try!
@johnny_makes I used Pocket and a few Notion workarounds, but there's a thing I always missed: the self-organizing option. I haven't tried Fabric yet, but it definitely answers a real pain points. Super keen to give it a try soon!
Also congrats on the launch!
Congratulations on PH launch. Using the tool for almost month and I must say that it has lot of potential and love that it is available on multiple platforms from day one. Their search is pretty spot on and Mac Quick add functionality is super useful.
Biggest downside for me which is the reason I stopped using fabric now is that the UI is clean but clunky. iOS app has subpar UI which just mimics web app. Native UI with drag and drop, swipe gestures would make UX 10 times better. It’s very hard for the tool to change UI path once they choose their way so don’t have much hope for short term but will keep an eye out.
Thanks @johnny_makes for reply. I just downloaded the beta again to check and don’t see much changed from couple of days ago when I stopped. But will looking forward to see improvement and integration soon.
Johnny Ships! It seems like it was only a few weeks ago when you released the web app. Congrats Johnny and team, ye are killing it!
The struggle to organize and find digital content is real. How is stuff organized? A couple of questions:
1. Is it all folder hierarchy or do you also support tags?
2. Does semantic search search within files?
Thanks @davej ! 🫶
Great questions:
1. Our whole approach is really to let people work their own way and to be unopinionated... so users can use folders, tags, comments – but in any case, our AI will analyse the contents and automatically create smart collections and make it easily searchable
2. You can semantically search inside files like PDFs, notes and images... and video and more coming soon!
Love this, but is there any way to get support through Fabric itself? I wanted to ask whether a Safari extension is in the works but couldn't easily find a way to do so :(
Hey @alexanderspoor – we'll have Safari and Firefox out in about 2 weeks :) Just trying to get to a great experience before expanding to more platforms!
@johnny_makes@alexanderspoor - We have a "Give Feedback" button on the Account page. You can use that to ask for help (or give feedback).
Here's where to find that button:
- open the sidebar menu
- click / tap your name (at the bottom) in the menu to go to your Account page
- click / tap "Give Feedback"
You can also post on here
Doesn't let me load audio or video. Slow upload for pdf. Hope those limitations can be fixed.
Lifetime plan is a good option but always uncertain if there's a commitment for future updates..
@ashish_bhateja - The app should let you upload audio and video.
Could you please provide some more info about the problem you are having? I’ll look into it
@leonard_q_marcq If I may ask one more question. Can I link items uploaded to Fabric? For example, images to my markdown notes where they can be rendered?
@ashish_bhateja - We don't support linking items together at the moment. However, there are a lot of things that we are currently working on and that might be something we add in at some point. I'll share the feedback around as well!
@ashish_bhateja - We are investigating this right now and we have just identified the issue. We are rolling out a fix (should be up in the next few hours). Thank you for reporting the issue!
We are also planning on improving the overall uploading UI this week to offer a smoother experience when uploading many files simultaneously, among other improvements.
Congrats on the launch Johnny! This product looks super useful - definitely going to give it a try. Curious what software you used to make the promo video. It looks absolutely stunning!
@jonassc - Hey there. Could you please elaborate on what you found hard to navigate?
We are continuously improving the app, so it would be helpful feedback. Thanks for trying it out!
