Sunnyside is the only alcohol planning, tracking and coaching app that focuses on mindfulness and moderation, not sobriety. Cut back on drinking (or simply build healthier habits) without feeling pressured to quit. Available for iOS and web/SMS.
Timely launch with New Years Resolutions coming up.
I like alcohol and won't be quitting, but I find it less enjoyable the older I get, especially when it affects my sleep or physical well-being the following day (when I drink more than a few glasses).
@rrhoover thanks for commenting! It certainly affects your sleep a lot more and limits your ability to get real recovery the more you consume. After I started tracking more actively, I was able to become more aware of which nights I was able to get better sleep and focus.
Hope you enjoy the app and find it helpful with new years around the corner (or join us for the Dry(ish) January challenge!)
@rrhoover Exactly! The new year is a great opportunity to reconsider drinking habits. It's one of the highest leverage health investments you can make when you consider the impact drinking can have on sleep, recovery, mood and stress levels, and diet and weight — not to mention long term heart and liver health.
I appreciate you checking us out, and taking the time to share your thoughts!
Hey Product Hunt 👋
Thanks for hunting us @hnshah 🙏
I'm Nick, the CEO & Co-founder here at Sunnyside
Super excited to share what we've been working on 👇
47% of US adults are interested in cutting back their alcohol intake. 1 in 3 drink an unhealthy amount, meaning alcohol is having an outsized impact on health and longevity for more than 68M adults in the US alone. Yet fewer than 2% of drinkers take proactive action to change their drinking habits.
The question we asked ourselves is *why*, given that half of us want to make a change to our drinking habits, do so few people get started? 🤔
💡 We believe we’ve found the answer. Until now, our options have been extremely limited, with virtually every service in the alcohol health space purpose built (and branded) towards achieving complete sobriety. For the millions of us who want to make a change but aren’t interested in quitting entirely, we’ve been left without options.
At ☀️Sunnyside☀️ we’ve been working on a science-backed approach to help people cut back on drinking, and make positive lifestyle changes built around moderation and mindfulness. We're excited to share our app with the PH community today, so you can experience a new path to more mindful drinking that doesn’t revolve around an all-or-nothing philosophy.
Having already helped more than 150,000 people achieve their healthier drinking goals, we’re leading the way in providing a much-needed alternative to those seeking balance vs. absolute zero when it comes to their drinking. Today, we’re excited to announce our new iOS app and member community, which take the Sunnyside experience to the next level.

Thinking about a healthy drinking reset for 2023? Here's one more feature you'll love:
📅 Dry(ish) January Challenge: With the new year fast approaching, many individuals attempt a fully sober January. Although this can be a great reset for your body, many struggle to maintain this once February rolls around, and fall back into old habits.
We’ve developed a unique feature in Sunnyside to choose how you want to participate in a January health reset. You can select from various options of how you want to participate in Dry(ish) January:
- A full month of sobriety
- Only drinking on weekends
- Reducing your consumption by 50%
- Or fully customizing your plan to your needs
After opting in, we’ll work with you to stick to your specific intention, and also help you taper back to a good place once February rolls around.

Common questions we get asked:
🧠 What is Mindful Drinking?
Mindful drinking is more than an idea. It’s a movement. A community growing larger by the day. Put simply, it’s all about thinking while drinking. Mindful drinking is not about quitting alcohol, but instead being intentional about when you drink, aware of how much you’re drinking, and paying attention to its impact on you in the moment. It’s about recognizing the reasons for and the ramifications of drinking. It’s about improving your relationship with alcohol so you maximize enjoyment and minimize negative side effects like hangovers, regrets, and anxiety.
☀️ Who is Sunnyside for?
Sunnyside is for anyone who drinks alcohol, especially those who want to explore the positive benefits of drinking more mindfully. Whether you just want to learn and understand more about your own drinking habits, or you want to reduce your consumption, your journey is fully customized and prepared for YOU.

Looking forward to hearing what you think!
i'm actually really interested to try this because I've been thinking about ways I can be more intentional with alcohol, but have no desire to give it up completely. who knew there was an app for that! congrats on the launch!
Thanks @britt_joiner! I really hope you give it a shot. Your description is exactly why we created Sunnyside, and you'd be joining tens of thousands with the same personal goal 🙂
I used to be a hopeless drunk. I've lost count of the times I've blacked out and woken up in strange places. I once woke up on a beach with all my stuff missing. I don't even live near a beach. But now with Sunnyside, I can continue to drown my sorrows in alcohol but be more mindful about it and avoid getting black out drunk.
@siddharth87 Thanks Sid for sharing this VERY open and honest story. I hope Sunnyside continues to help you on journey. It seems like you've come a long way since then.
I’ve been an avid user for the last 6+ months and Sunnyside has been a game changer. The SMS based infrastructure is incredibly intuitive and engaging, and it seems a lot of the same UX has been brought to iOS. I’m curious how the team thinks about psychological principles and health habit research to inform this product? Great work!
This is a really cool idea! I love the fact that you're focused on improving habits without requiring sobriety or making people feel bad for not being fully sober.
Thanks @jonathan_gans1. Removing shame, guilt, and the pressure to quit entirely is core to our philosophy, so I really appreciate the comment. Reducing alcohol by a bit, or simply building healthier habits like rotating in more water or not drinking before bed, can have big positive impact!
This is amazing!! Honestly, very well thought out support mechanism to help people reach their goals. Peer pressure, social obligations, and just the stresses of life can be tough to navigate on one's own. Great work!
@jbear36 exactly.. there are a ton of reasons and triggers to drink all around us. We hope to be the friend in your pocket to help push back on the temptation, and keep drinking 100% on your terms.
This is such a great idea, Alcohol is such an abused substance, love what you are doing to help folks live a healthier lifestyle. Well done @nick_allen8 and team!
Super cool idea and more importantly mission. Feel like moderation is the key to preventing drastic actions for most things, folks just need small tweaks in their behavior. Good luck!
@kent_mori Thanks Kent. The mission is incredibly personal and important to us. Personally my family has been negatively impacted by alcohol for generations, which has created a complicated relationship to alcohol for me. This is a familiar story I hear from so many people that I talk to. Hopefully we can be part of the movement to de-stigmatize alcohol health a bit :)
I asked chatgpt about your idea, “It sounds like a potentially interesting and useful startup idea. Many people may be interested in cutting back on their alcohol consumption or developing healthier habits related to alcohol use, but may not want to completely abstain from drinking. A app that helps users track and plan their alcohol intake and provides coaching on mindfulness and moderation could be a helpful tool for these individuals. It's also a good idea to make the app available on both iOS and web/SMS platforms, as this will make it more accessible to a wider audience.”
I then asked for a bit more negative input that might actually be of value
“It's important to consider both the potential benefits and potential drawbacks of any startup idea. One potential concern with an alcohol planning, tracking, and coaching app that focuses on moderation rather than sobriety is that it may not be suitable for individuals who have a more severe alcohol use disorder or who have experienced negative consequences as a result of their alcohol consumption. In these cases, complete abstinence from alcohol may be the most appropriate and safest course of action. It's also important to consider the potential risks associated with any app that promotes alcohol use, such as the potential for increased harm due to binge drinking or irresponsible behavior.
It would be important for the app to include appropriate disclaimers and warnings, and to provide resources and referrals for individuals who may need more intensive support for their alcohol use. It would also be important for the app to ensure that it is in compliance with any relevant laws and regulations regarding the promotion and sale of alcohol.”
This is great! Specially during the Holiday season. I've reduced my alcohol in-take significantly but I know it's easy to get peer-pressured, particularly this season with so many events/activities. I think committing to this type of program is definitely beneficial to keep those goals!
This product looks great and i'm excited to give it a try! Wondering if this is supported on smart watches? That's where I track most of my health activity
@joanna_lu_ not yet, but integrations are definitely on the roadmap in 2023. Check it out and let us know what you think, and we'll keep working on making even better every day 🙂
I'm one of the co-founders of Sunnyside along with @nick_allen8 and I'm incredibly proud and excited about the progress we've made in the past year, and the tens of thousands of lives we've positively impacted.
Thanks to everyone who is supporting us and our mission to improve drinking habits in a positive, uplifting way!
Love this! Perfect for cutting back and creating more mindful drinking habits
If your New Years Resolution includes drinking less, Sunnyside is perfect for you
Beverage consumption is often a social activity-- maybe an extension to your app could focus on having friends on the app and having some kind of mutually competitive environment like streaks or something similar. Another way of regulating could be by gamifying the app-- include party drinking games on a digital platform for a refurbished experience where you drink, but totally in control because the game is moderated by the app.
@manansuri27 love this idea. We're definitely thinking through multiplayer features as well. Our new community gets us part of the way there with the ability to connect with others on the journey too. In January we're launching our first challenge around Dry(ish) January, so that'll start to really hone in on the social experience of cutting back. And lots more around gamification and teams to come!
