I'm personally more used to generic note taking apps that are also apps focused on writing text like notational velocity, roam, saga.so and so on. How do you see Memorizer fit in with existing apps?
@__tosh Basically we take a complete new angle. It's probably a bit slower to add something to remember (but we will improve) but you'll get so much more value short and long term. You'll have very visual lists with enriched content (like the books author etc..) that are easily manageable (when converting to-do things into long term memories for instance), that will progressively create a great mapping of your life. We work on the full memory funnel : to store, to retrieve, to share with friends better while note takings apps mainly focus is short-terme productivity! And once this amazing value/information is well organized and structured, you'll get a lot of reward for yourself... and your friends. (that's what our core users feel)
Since memories are quite sensitive (you neither want to lose them but also care about privacy) I wonder how you think about data storage? Can you share more about that angle?
@__tosh Another great question! We think data privacy has to be the backbone of any new project in this field. As shown by Web3, people care about their privacy more than ever. And we do too. On memorizer your data is your data and we will never commercialized it. All your memories are 100% private by default. And then you can share or make it visible to your friends in one tap. You have full control. The data is stored on AWS servers and fully secured. If your loose your phone, you're not loosing your memories! That could be another reason for people to use the app.
Well done team! Slick app. What are some surprising ways people are using Memorizer? I feel there could be a number of categories I remembered more things in if I just build the habit.
@gabhubert Hi Gabriel and thanks for your support! We currently have around 100 categories supported by our AI. But 10 of them represents 80% of the 400 000 memories already published! Those categories are mainly entertainment and food categories : movies, books, series, restaurants, recipes... That said, we've noticed that people with memories in "secondary" categories (like concerts, exhibitions, quotes, shopping ideas...) have a greater retention! So clearly the challenge is : "how do you make people discover other type of usage?". Given we want to be in our users' daily life that will be one of the key factor of our success.
@gabhubert also when we look at the 750 ratings on the app store, around 1 out of 2 are asking for custom/personalized lists. (I want to do the list of my Kitesurf spots for ex) So that's the next thing coming in the rodmap. No doubt we'll see a lot of creativity from users!
Congratulation on the Product Hunt launch. Very impressive work. The app can do much more than I thought. The magic scan is a tremendous feature, but memories loose as soon as I delete pictures from my photos app which bad as I normally take backup to google photos. I hope you improve on this in future by additional options to scan things around my location which I can add quickly etc. I hope movies and shows information works with all the shows rather some only. LInks should have a place in the item details so i can add a related youtube link for reference. Movies, and places should be auto complete on search as now I have to search the complete name of show , copy paste and add to the list. Goodluck.
@nilsej These are all great feedbacks in deed!! :) We'll be improving the scan in the coming months and we'll manage to get more precise memories (restaurants with all infos for instance). For movies and shows, we have a 90% rate for now but this will improve too. Concerning links, you can put them in the "To remember" section for now (and they will be proper links). You can also share links from any mobile browser into your memorizer (using the native iOS share button) and they will be added in the "To remember" section. Yes for the autocompletion we are on it! Thanks again ! Charles
@julienmartin_ Hi! We'll be working on an extension similar to what you can do with Notion's one. You'll be able to quickly ping anything and send it to your Memorizer at the right place. The web app could come later... ;)
I'm always trying new products to make this easier! Will give it a shot -- looks great! (also going to hit up @arthur_humeau to do our launch vid too! Nice work team.
@christianriedi eheh thanks. There are many ways to look at what we do but we don't compare ourselves too much to existing products. We just try to solve users pbs: how to store all those cools things, retrieve infos, improve my memory & culture... and share great things with friends!
How is “they are old-fashioned” an argument against using note taking apps?
This is what I’m picturing:
— I have an infection. The doctor prescribed antibiotics, but I don’t want to take them.
— Why not?
— They’re old fashioned.
— … What?
— People have been using antibiotics since 1930!
— Maybe because they WORK?
I’m not bashing your product. Just, if your argument is baseless, don’t use it? 😇
@anna_0x ahah that's actually the last word we did put in this video! We were struggling to find a good one to say that the app notes do not solve the pain properly for many reasons --> they don't use modern technologies/APIs like Image reco, OCR, ex... to tidy up things easily + they don't give a visual representation of your memories --> so they end up often messy and hardly give long term value. But we did not want to sound rude!
@charles_baron Hm how about “by not taking advantage of the latest tech, they offer a subpar experience”? Or, about your product, something like: “Recent advances in AI help us deliver the most accurate automatic categorization”
Thanks for hunting us @__tosh
Greetings, Product Hunt!
We are excited to announce the Memorizer app, where everything you like (books, movies, concerts, places…) is easily centralized, organized and shared.
It all comes from a single figure: 90%!
We forget around 90% of everything we do or want to do. That could be a pretty efficient way for our brains to make space for important things. BUT we (the founders, the team, our investors… and most of all our users) think that in modern times, this cleaning process is kind of disturbed by our crazy lives and things we want to remember get erased too.
OUR SOLUTION -> MAKE YOUR LIFE MEMORABLE
📱 Simple, if not obvious!
We tried to create something as simple as possible, accessible to anyone from 14 to 94 years-old and 100% dedicated to the matter: next gen lists of memories!
From books you found interesting to movie recommendations heard on TV, to gift ideas for your Christmas shopping… just use your “super-app to remember everything”.
📸 Visual memory sticks longer:
A memory contains at least one picture. You can take it from your gallery or our search engine will find one for you.
🤖 Technology serving human brains:
We really don’t want you to use your own memory less. We work on the best mobile technologies, APIs and our artificial intelligence to help you store, retrieve the info… and improve your ability to keep memories alive, for real.
🧘♀️ Feel-good productivity:
On Memorizer you’ll store things you want to do, not the ones you have to do.
👭 Power of networks:
Memorizer helps you share high quality content so easily… that anyone could do it. This could create an invaluable stream of experiences to live based on the memories stored by your network.
List of core features
• Create a memory from our search engine or your own photos
• Artificial intelligence that offers categorization + enriched information such as author, summary… (available on books, films, series and places)
• Gallery scan to create memories at the speed of light
• Create Top 10’s per category
• Browse your friends’ feed to add golden nuggets to your to-do lists
The team and I would be very happy to receive any type of love, advice and feedback! 🙂
Well, that’s it…we wish you a memorable life ;)
Charles
Awesome app will work on switching over all of my favorites stored on airtable over to here! I was surprised to see that there is no cafe category would like to see that added
@__tosh@charles_baron Loved the message in your video, it's really powerful. Also, finally there's a product for committing the plot lines of all Netflix binges to memory xD)
@__tosh Hi Thomas, thanks for the question. We've been iterating on our beta version for the past 18 months (more than 30 releases on the App Store) trying to explore and learn in our product territory : people's memory. We did not want too many users to keep high velocity in this process. Now we launch because we think we've reached the right retention and usage metrics. Our user love the app and we feel we are now strong enough to deliver on the promise we do! But roadmap remains... huge! :)
