Hi ProductHunt! We're excited to finally share Linear Mobile with all of you! A mobile app has been the number one request from many of you and we put *a lot* of time and effort into it to really get it right. What we're launching today is a fast, compact, and fully native mobile application for both iOS and Android. The app is specifically designed for on-demand workflows when you are away from your keyboard: - Stay informed about critical updates that need your attention - Quickly file new tasks and bug reports on the go - Unblock your team whenever necessary across issues, projects, and documents Please take it for a spin and let us know what you think!

?makers would love to see some shoutouts for the infrastructure and frameworks you used to bring this app to life! Did you use Apollo to build this?

Hey @chrismessina, Josh from the mobile team at Linear here. Great question! On the backend, we're using our GraphQL API, powered by Apollo Server. By using the same API that we deliver to our customers, we have been able to move quickly without needing dedicated help on the backend, and at the same time it has helped us identify gaps in our API. On the client side, both iOS and Android apps also use the respective Apollo clients for networking and some of the data layer. For our iOS app, we primarily built the UI in SwiftUI, and strive to use it as much as possible. However, for certain aspects of navigation and app lifecycle management, we've integrated UIKit components for the best possible user experience. We don't use many third-party libraries in the iOS app, but one notable exception is Nuke (https://kean.blog/nuke/home), an excellent image loading library.

I'm @pixelmatrix's Android counterpart at Linear. In our Android app, we use Kotlin, Compose, and a lot of open source libraries. Our Android application is a single activity that uses Circuit as our UI framework. Image loading is implemented with Coil. Networking and caching are performed by OkHttp and Apollo. For databases outside of Apollo, we use SqlDelight. And to tie all of this together, we use Dagger and Anvil for dependency injection.

I’ve been using the beta of this for over a month and absolutely loving it. Linear has truly transformed how we are running GoSquared across multiple areas of the business. The iOS app is a thing of beauty. It’s truly a joy to use, and the obsession and craft shine through just as much as they do on desktop, if not more so. Congratulations on what must be a big day at Linear HQ. Thank you for making something great!😊

being an early tester, couldn't wait this announcement enough! Linear mobile is a great addition and the app is simple and has exactly what's needed, not more. hope it stays this way

Such a dope product. I’ve been on the TestFlight for the better part of this year and it helped me being productive on the go. The UX is thoughtful and does not get in the way. Unlike the Notion mobile app, this one feels much faster, even when you load hundreds of items in a list. Well done and thank you!

hey congratsfor the launch and if i may ask how user friendly can this great tool be for new starters in devs students, none tech individuals just learning to code etc? i might have to share with someone needing this

If this doesn't get FIRST place, I don't know what will. Thank you, so much. I am an early stage startup founder, and we are on Linear... but running between investor coffee meetings and roadmap planning it is extremely hard to keep the tasks under control. You got my pledge, and my download :)

@Cristina Cordova Hey, this looks awesome and exactly what I need for managing tasks when I'm not at my desk! One question tho--does it support offline mode? I'm often in places with bad connection and that'd be super helpful. Thanks and congrats!

@noahchristopherbennett Linear Mobile works offline, but most actions won’t go through / save for when you're online again. It’s an area we want to improve though!

Does it also work for iPad? Thanks!
Daniel Harrison
Sounds like a super useful app. Just checked it out quickly, but looks really promising. Finally a mobile version! Congrats on the launch!

Evgenii Mozharovskii
I'm a huge fan of Linear, and now it's finally available on mobile – huge shoutout to the team! Really wish to have a column view on iPadOS – it would significantly improve the experience!
Kyrylo Silin
Hey Cristina, I'm interested in how you've optimized the mobile experience. Have you implemented any unique mobile-specific features that aren't available in the desktop version? Congrats on the launch!
Julian Lehr
@kyrylosilin We think of the mobile app as an extension of the desktop experience. The focus is "away from keyboard" workflows when you need to unblock your team. The main use cases are a) staying up to date on important updates (inbox + realtime notifications) and b) taking action when necessary (write issues, update issue details, comments, project updates).
Maryna Dobrovolska
I used Linear in my previous work—and I loved it! Congrats on the launch! 🎉 I'm curious... Do you plan to add the ability to assign tasks to multiple people? Sometimes it's really needed! 🫰
Julian Lehr
@maryna_dobrovolska1 That limitation is a very deliberate decision. Tasks should have a clearly defined owner. If multiple people work on something, you can break the issue down with sub-issues.
Maryna Dobrovolska
@lehrjulian Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense. I'll try using sub-tasks to involve my colleague in the work

The AFK workflows look promissing A away when I am from keyboard
Sebastian Wu
Can't wait to try it out and see how it boosts productivity away from the desk. This is a game-changer for project management on mobile. Great job, Linear team!
Matthew Russell
How about the notification scheduling feature? Can I set different schedules for different projects?
Nifal Adam
This is a game-changer for productivity! 🏆 Linear Mobile sounds like the perfect companion for those on-the-go moments, ensuring that work keeps flowing seamlessly no matter where we are.

The mobile version of the app has finally been released, and I support it!
