I love remote, and wouldn't switch to a full office regime. After running a fully distributed team for 10 years now, I see a lot of advantages for each team member, but I also see some caveats. Intense collaboration sessions are not the same thing when people are remote. There is some real magic that happens on these brainstorming sessions, that a full remote team just can't access. With that said, a remote brainstorming session will already work fairly well, and with the right team it can reach 80% of the results. I guess this is the compromise the firm has to assume, in order to access:
- distributed talent globally
- lower overhead
- flexible hours
- results-driven work (instead of time-based work)
- better salaries for the team, because the overhead is lower.
At least, that's how I think the pros and cons of this.
In most cases, your client's "quality bar" is much lower than yours, so the extra 20% you are not getting from great collaboration sessions, will not even be noticed by your clients, and will not be converted in money.
This is my honest opinion after running a service based firm. I don't really know about products themselves, but my guess is that if you are the person signing off on your work, you will have higher standards, but also will have flexibility to keep improving things over the long run. So in the end this would even out.
It really depends on the job. If it involves chatting and brainstorming, I prefer the office for that face-to-face interaction. But when I need to focus, working from home is the way to go. Honestly, after COVID, I kind of missed the office vibe. Productivity? Well, it varies. Remote work can boost productivity and happiness, but the office gives structure and social perks. It's all about what suits you and your job best! 😄🏢🏡💼👍
@anna_starodub1 What if you could have the best of both worlds (real-time engagement, similar to being in an office, with all the benefits of remote work, such as no daily commuting)?
A few years ago I would have answered office, but now home is equated to office and productivity in it is no worse - the main thing is to create the right environment and mindset).
Remote (and nomadic :)). In a creative field, it helps to work in different environments with different stimuli and even different people to cross paths with.
Being stuck working in either an office or just at home gets me thinking about Einstein's quote on "insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results".
I'm a long-time advocate of remote work, way before it became the norm. It cuts through the noise. In an office, there are too many distractions and side processes that obscure true progress. Remote work, on the other hand, brings clarity, allowing the results to speak for themselves, much like in my own work.
I think both are needed. Hybrid is best in my opinion as there are times when you need to sit together, collaborate, brainstorm and discuss ideas in order to get the most out of your time but also to help you set clear expectations. It is a little like the world of AI vs Humans. Both are required for the best input and output i think.
I'm in love with hybrid: when you work 2-3 days in the office, and 2-3 days at home. Office is best for team building, collective brainstorming & tasks, home is better for focus mode and relax work without any distractions. I love how you can switch your mind and be most effective with the hybrid model 😍
For me it depends upon the situation.
Like sometimes we consider the travel time from our home to office. If the travel is a bit time costly, some might consider the remote setup work or hybrid.
For me if I have a choice I'll go for a hybrid. We also need a physical interaction with our colleagues.
