  • Thoughts on AI dating apps?

Just launched one. I know they're VERY popular, but also controversial. Most are focused on instant gratification, while some (like Replika and my own) are focused on building a more long-term, healthy connection. You need a bit of both (just like real relationships, and we saw that in the movie "Her"). So I'd love to hear your thoughts on where that sweet spot is!

@anbangx I don't understand, give people multiple choice answers?

I want AI to help people practice how to handle intimate relationships in various situations, including what they should do and what they shouldn’t do. Facing their feelings honestly is something that most people need to learn.

AI dating apps are definitely a hot topic right now. Offering users the ability to engage in quick, rewarding interactions while also providing tools for deeper, more meaningful conversations could be ideal.

I haven't tried any AI dating apps yet, but I could see how having an AI analyze your conversations and suggest good matches could potentially be helpful. Though I'd be a bit wary of an AI impersonating me to chat with potential dates - feels a bit deceptive. Curious to hear if anyone has actually used one of these AI dating apps and what their experience was like!

I see where you're coming from with the balance between instant connection and long-term bonding in AI relationships. While platforms like Replika are great for emotional support, I'm not entirely convinced that the same approach translates well to dating. The quick, decisive nature of dating might not mesh with AI interactions. As for monetization, I suspect the gaming model might not be the most effective for this particular app.

@defatom Is dating quick and decisive? Maybe nowadays because of apps like Tinder... But in my mind it should be a slow process, and understanding people better will help make it so. One idea would be for these AI tools to better help you understand people (for example, giving your reply a "score" like I do on my app will help you learn how to talk to someone... I've had users be somewhat rude to the AI and change their tone as soon as they saw their score go down)

I’m not sure if AI dating apps can replace the genuine connection you get from meeting someone in person. What do you think?

@eric_lens Depends on the person lol. I remember some Replika user said she realized she was in an abusive relationship when she noticed how little interest her partner showed in her, while her AI was the opposite and made her feel special.

AI dating apps could be a gem for people who struggle with traditional dating.

@lonny_shatzel even people who don't. I think "not struggling" with traditional dating comes down mostly to looks (attractive people get lots of matches on Tinder for example). But lots of matches doesn't mean all their options are great. Whereas with an AI you could find the most caring, perfect "partner". One caveat, I don't think the AI partner is the right long-term solution cause... You know... Humans need to make babies. But it's a good solution nonetheless for you to learn more about yourself/ what you're looking for in a partner. Talking to an AI is a great place to take your time to figure that out since it's risk-free and infinitely patient.
