Find your home using joinmastodon.org or https://instances.social/
Pros: The idea that you can have niche communities and still interact with people in general! Speaking of the community, it's so positive!
Cons: At the moment, it still takes a lot of knowledge to run your own, however I believe in the future it will be as prevalent as email.

I love Mastodon and it pains me to read that people would rather stay within the closed walls of FB or Twitter. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course. I believe that real growth can happen using Mastodon instances that would never be possible on platforms.

I'm surprised that nobody around these parts has asked the question, but is there plans for an Apple app? While I'm strictly Android, most of my friends are iPhone cultists.

Being in charge of my personal data & photos is important to me. You can laugh at my tin foil hat, but centralized services like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Dropbox & Facebook have no real incentive to take care of my information. If I have issues and leave their services, I'm one person out of millions. With Skylark, I'll be in control. I'm very excited and signed up.

I've been using this for quite a while and I love it. Mix tapes passed between friends ended when we had music at our finger tips everywhere. So many services are desperate to keep you on their platform that they don't allow you to share albums or songs with friends. Noted is different and allows me to hear what friends are digging.

I've used this service for years, even after trying the latest and greatest. Some of the chill stations are great for when you're working and the xmas stations offered are insanely unique.

"Interesting project. I wish more people took an interest in this issue instead of being distracted by Kardashians and iPhone releases," said grumpy old man me.
