First of all, if you're talking about using a mobile app there is PowerDirector for Android which has an amazing range of features, and for iOS, there's LumaFusion. But even with simple template-based apps, it's the competence and skill of the maker, not the tool quality, that allows creating great products.

I always get super excited about such products! Just a couple of questions:
1) Does it store or send the analyzed data somewhere?
2) What's the minimal amount of lighting needed for the tool to work properly?

I tend to switch to a new product if the features of the one being used start to fall behind the competition, or the service starts to have reliability issues, but rarely just for sake of novelty.
Do you continue to use same products/apps over a long period or do you explore new products?

There's much truth in what you're saying, but on the flip side - there will always be some distracting factors. Things of nation- and worldwide importance happen every day so you can't really consider them all. I'd say, keep it in mind, but not too much. The ones truly interested in your product will come to you anyway.
Is it a bad idea to launch near election week?

I have to say, this is a really cool concept. The only thing I would suggest is adding the already existing review and ratings from the web for some very specific niche products that very few people can share their opinion about.
