Open source tools are somehow underrated. Proprietary software have bloated features and complex business models. Building in public allows making good moves in future releases of any OSS.

It depends on the culture of the company. Some companies like GitLab have remote-first culture and while others brutally failed. More transparency and credibility are required for remote cultures.
