If you can afford it, bootstrap in the early days. Next step for me personally would be Angels to get at least a few hundred '000 to scale the business. Once the proof points are there, and your start-up is able to tangibly demonstrate the trending up on your revenue chart, then you've got strong financial metrics to go to VCs for the next growth phase.

Intercom. Very powerful with their product tours, in-app messaging, knowledge base for your help articles, ability to send emails too based on event triggers. Lots of features, not cheap but they have a sweet deal for early start ups who haven't got funding as yet. It will take time to get familiar with using all their features but if you can afford the time and the cost, it's a great tool to use.
