Thanks for your post, and for being so open to feedback!
An initial look at Listolia definitely makes me curious. Here's how my naive mind sees it:
1) A place where influencers (eg: Tim Ferris) could write his top 5 favorite leadership books (for example).
2) A platform for anyone to create an account for making private lists for groceries, etc.
Question to think about for both...

Great question! For us, our first 20 or so customers were all relationships. That said, there is A TON of value in exposing your product to folks who don't know you, because they're more likely to give you blunt feedback.
Starting with testing out your app on friends, however, is a great way to make it "market ready".
What's your app about? Excited to see it!
Here's us BTW :-)!
How did you acquire your first 10 customers using your app?

Oooo this is a good question, one, which I don't have a perfect answer to, so here are my two cents:
To convert free to paid, we've started doing two things:
1) Answering the question "if our product did not exist, would company A who is using it currently be in trouble"? This is a very hard question to answer, but it encourages us to keep improving our core set of features.
2) Asking...

Goals for this week; what's in your control?
Hello everyone!
I recently read about an intriguing stoic principle - to only focus on things in one's control.
It sounded so obvious but when I looked at my list of goals, most of them were not in my control.
So- which of your goals for this week, are in your control?
Here are three of mine:
1) Follow up with five past customers and notify them about price changes/ introduction of the...

Those are some awesome examples! I don't think there is a right way to validate it, and it depends (like the examples you posted reflect) on the use case. That said, here's what we do (our product is a customer journey analytics platform):
1) We use it ourselves for client work. For us this is big. If we cannot use it/ hate it that's an indication that something needs to change.
2) However,...
What metrics do you use to validate product-market fit?

Questions about relaunching on PH
Hello All,
Although we launched on PH this summer, our prices have changed dramatically (based on feedback we've introduced a free tier and changed pricing for other tiers), and we'd like to relaunch the product on the platform.
Question is:
- Is a pricing change a valid enough reason for a relaunch? We do think it'll attract more folks to trying out our product, given the change in pricing....

From a business perspective - trying to get more hands on our product. We even introduced a free tier recently to make it more accessible, but I guess we're learning how difficult it's with so much noise that we deal with every day!

Role switching! You are your own engineering/sales/customer service/marketing department! At least for the first few iterations of the product, as a maker, it's so critical to switch roles on a daily basis.
Makers, what's the hardest part of what you're building that everyone else assumes is easy?

I think the following question is apt, but the answer can be very scary (albeit useful)- "Would your business survive/thrive without product ___"?
Most of the time the answer to this question is "yes", but I think the goal is to get as close as possible to "no", wherein the business very clearly sees the value of your product.
Good luck!

We found our beta testers in friends and family! I think it's the easiest way to get some eyes on the product. That said, putting your product in hands of users who don't personally know you definitely has its own benefits! You should also check out IndieHackers.

Our biggest learning has been to create an online community of sorts and invite people to it, along with the usual Product Hunt listing. We lost some folks in that aspect cause we didn't have a community, but we set one up this week and are excited to see what happens!

What's the worst advice you ever got?
We've all heard good advice here and there, but curious to see if any of y'all have gotten really bad advice in your respective careers?
I'll start -> During my first internship, my manager told me to never question him. As a naive 17-year-old, I followed it to the book and executed campaigns that had no clear goals. Needless to say, we didn't generate many (if any) returns. Since then,...

This is an interesting question and one that my colleagues and I have been debating about for years, at work. The way I've looked at it, with my naive and limited experience is that service and product can act as a very good synergy.
In our case, we help our clients create optimized experiences to increase their ROI, and our product is a digitized version of "us". It does what we used to...
