    This Labor Day, customers who want to stop for a bite to eat while driving will have no shortage of options. On the federal holiday, most national fast food businesses, sit-down restaurants, and grocery stores will be open, but banks and post offices will be closed. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, labor activists pushed for a federal holiday "to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America's strength, prosperity, and well-being" in the late nineteenth century, which is where Labor Day got its start. Today, Labor Day celebrates "the social and economic achievements of American workers.
