I was involved in a chat tool a few years back. It worked really well, cool user interface. It was very hard to compete on price due to the larger players having such big exposure. You will need to be very innovative to gain traction. Intercom did well in being different to the zopims off the world.

This is awesome. Great way to meet some similar people while traveling.
