What has your experience been with discrimination?
All too often in my life, I have been told directly that I will not receive the same service as others because of the color of my skin.
That's why today, my team and I are proud to announce that we launched our app, The Green Book Project, on Product Hunt today. We built this because we believe that we can use tech to create a more inclusive and equitable world for...
A mobile app that helps people from marginalized groups find inclusive businesses and avoid discrimination. We crowdsource user reviews to help women, BIPOC, queer folks, and folks with disabilities stay safe from harm and discrimination while traveling.

Hi everyone, I'm the founder of The Green Book Project 📗.
We launched The Green Book Project on the Apple App Store back at the end of 2020
when it was still just a side project. Fast-forward to today, and we have over 5,000+ users across the US & Canada!
This is our story:

Oh I love this! @ylowe created a #high_fives channel for us as well @ The Green Book Project. It's been a really great place to show appreciation for each other and recognize people's accomplishments.
We also make use of "brag books" to keep track of what things people have accomplished but this is more for future performance reviews rather than anything else
How do you announce your teammate's accomplishment to your team?

Funnily enough, I actually work more hours when WFH compared to when I was in an office. I find that I'm actually way more productive WFH because I can take care of personal needs (doing laundry, running to the bank, etc.) as they come up rather than having to hold off on everything until the workday ends.
What's your favorite perk of WFH?

I suspect the future of marketing will be the rise of corporate personalities.
Influencer marketing has become one of the most effective marketing channels out there, and there is already a pretty big economy built around assisting aspiring influencers in growing their audiences and sourcing deals with corporate brands.
I don't think it would be a leap to believe that consumer-facing...

Often when people from marginalized groups (people of color, queer folks, etc.) want to go somewhere new, we have to worry about whether or not we'll be safe or welcome when we get there.
This problem causes businesses to miss out on potential customers and causes consumers to miss out on hidden gems and local favorites.
Our app, The Green Book Project, helps customers like me identify...

For recharging on the weekends, I've recently started playing DnD with my brother and sister-in-law, and it's done wonders for my mental health.
During the work week, I have found that just getting out of the house for a couple of hours a day has helped. Leading a remote team has meant that the lines between work and life get blurred. So getting out of the house really helps me reset.

I would 100% tell myself to invest more in friendships and to be intentional about keeping up with people.
I would also tell myself that things like my SAT score, and my GPA are far less important in my professional life than I could ever have imagined.
What advice would you give to your younger self?

1. Notion - I use it for pretty much everything from organizing my thoughts to running meetings and even for playing DnD with friends on the weekend.
2. Slack - I manage a remote-first team, and Slack is the primary medium we use to communicate with each other. I don't think our startup would function without it.
3. TikTok - Super-underrated platform for speaking to and engaging with users.

A big hack I've learned for preventing miscommunications is to verbally check my assumptions. When someone does something I don't understand or that seems slightly rude I say:
"You did or said 'X', which I interpret to mean 'Y'. Can you tell me if my assumption is correct?"
It's worked wonders for dispelling miscommunications in both my professional and personal life, and it's even helped me...
