6 insights from studying 112(!) AI companies in YC W23
I spent the weekend analyzing over 100 AI and ML companies from the latest batch of YC. Here are 6 key takeaways that I learned:
1. Lots of developer tools. YC has always filtered for technical founders, and many of them are using AI to do what they know - improve the software developer workflow.
2. Lots of competition. There were many companies that seemed quite similar, either in their...

Yes, absolutely. I'm working on some case studies of e-commerce companies that are using AI to improve their workflows. There are companies like Hypotenuse AI that are building AI tools targeted at e-commerce.
The case studies will be posted at ignorance.ai

My layman’s understanding is that the following sequence of events happened:
- In 2021 SVB saw a mass influx in deposits, which jumped from $61B at the end of 2019 to $189B at the end of 2021.
- As deposits grew, SVB could not grow their loan book fast enough to generate the yield they wanted to see on this capital. As a result, they purchased a large amount (over $80B!) in mortgage backed...

Getting Things Done is a classic. Here are 3 of my favorites, though they're more related to productive company-building than personal productivity:
- Find Your Why (by Simon Sinek)
It's really easy to get lost in *what* you're doing, and forget the *why*. But the why is what ultimately drives people.

The really key question is what happens on Monday. Prior to this week, 93% of deposits were uninsured (above the $250K FDIC limit), which means there are a lot of companies with tens or hundreds of millions (like Roku) stuck at SVB.
In all likelihood, companies are going to get 100% of their deposits back if they can wait long enough. But if there isn’t a buyer by next week we’re probably...

ChatGPT is not going to "kill Google" or revolutionize the search engine space.
That being said, I think it's going to drive a huge amount of value in many different areas, but I think focusing on consumer search is missing the point.
