How we treat each other, both in-person and digitally, matters. We both should not be the perpetrator of harmful behavior nor stand by and watch it happen. Corporations and governments, at their most basic, are simply groups of people. As individuals in these groups we have a responsibility to ourselves, each other, as well as future generations not to commit or condone such harm. This Twitter...

Companies have been using AI for years, despite the way the story is being framed in 2023. For instance:

It has gone through different iterations, notably during remote learning in 2020/21:

I agree with Dr. Jones that treating it as one of many tools in our education toolbox is the best way to frame it. Like anything...

The product teams I've run use customer feedback to identify potential issues with the product, as well as general areas for improvement. By understanding how customers are using and responding to the product, we develop better products and experiences that better meet customer needs. Customers also provide valuable feedback on pricing, packaging, and other aspects of the product that may need...

Prompt: Write a limerick about pros and cons of spring:
Result:
There once was a season called spring
That brought both pros and cons to the ring
It brought the birds' song And the flowers' throng
But also the pollen it did bring

Just saw this from Allie Miller: "BloombergGPT, an LLM for the finance industry trained on both public (49% of total dataset, including Wikipedia, USPTO, HackerNews, and the Enron emails) and proprietary or owned or cleaned data (51% including news, filings, press), is just the beginning."

ANY products or companies lacking any clear values-based motivation or guardrails. This includes around trust and safety as well as related to bias and bigotry... not specific to AI, but seems with the mad dash to get on this 10x moment these are afterthoughts instead of by-design.

The "slow AI" movement didn't start with Elon Musk and he shouldn't get the headline credit for it, in my opinion.
I find what Mia Shah-Dand had this to say on this insightful:
"Clarification: An open letter by high-profile tech folks calling for a moratorium on AI is trending on social media. This post is *not* an endorsement of that letter nor is it related to the efforts that Timnit Gebru...

Most of the folks in my life are either in awe and excited about the potential applications, or at least curious. The only naysayers or more critical feedback (justified or not) has been in the media. Although, in my personal life, I did observe someone in a social group share about how they used an AI site to generate professional headshots. It was an interesting exchange because some of the...

When I first transitioned into tech, even though I had been a leader in nonprofit for a decade, I lacked confidence. Unfortunately I was also not well supported by my employer or supervisor. I learned the hard way, and even though those first two years in tech were full of turmoil, I'm grateful for having stuck through it. I learned a ton, and--once I found an organization who's values better...

For me it is a symbiotic relationship. Your product vision should be born out of customer insights (what problem do they have that you are uniquely solving), and from there you should engage in a regular practice of connection with your current and prospective clients to continually calibrate and finesse your road map.
How do you balance incorporating customer feedback while staying true to your product vision?

I just posted about this myself!
"We all should have our critical thinking caps on when it comes to these models, but that doesn't mean we avoid them or carte blanche label them as detrimental. Instead, we would be best served to build in a moment of pause--to give time to ask ourselves tough questions about the content generated by systems using these models. Such systems can very much make...

We use the RICE prioritization framework and regularly revisit:
1. our model's metrics
2. specific feature request/bugs individual RICE scores (because they can change over time!)
How do you prioritize features and decide what to include in your product roadmap?
