Does not recommend this product
We edit videos daily. We purchased ScreenFlow version 2 for animating tutorials, screen captures, and webinars. We used the product for several years, even progressing to version 6 and using the software for things like recording the streaming preview renders of our 3D animations. The cool thing is that it was actually quicker for us to simply screen grab the preview renders, than to actually output a low resolution render out of the 3D animation software. So, technically we weren't really using the software anymore for its original design. Editing is "okay" there are still some stability issues with version 6. We contemplated updating to version 8, we downloaded it on one of our computers that does not have a license for it and ran it in demo mode (just get the logos baked in on your renders). Honestly, the differences between 6 and 8 were definitely minimal--really nothing that justified the increased upgrade cost for our computers. As of the writing of this review, ScreenFlow 9.0.2 is out and we did the same experiment. Still nothing worth the cost of the upgrade for us. With the ease of being able to do screen capture QuickTime and OBS, we see no need for this software anymore. All of our real video editing is done on FCPX, Premiere, or Avid.
For those new to screen capturing: We would recommend this product to them; however, we would advise them to not upgrade to the "new releases" because the upgrades are not worth the amount they will be charged.
