I know several parents that ban YouTube or nervously monitor their children's viewing consumption because it hosts a lot of inappropriate content for kids. This is a logical step.
This is great for my kids, but more for me. My kids constantly share videos on youtube to my facebook and twitter, and my "what to watch" is constantly kids shows.
This is wonderful! Youtube is such a great platform for kids just like it is for others. I had looked for a product like this a couple of years ago. Going to definitely be trying it out.
Can't wait to check this out. Our 4-year-old loves certain things on youtube but is only a click away from inappropriate content at any given time -- and given her age, "inappropriate" covers a lot.
The language youtube is using suggests you'll still have access to a lot of the content on youtube: "Now, parents can rest a little easier knowing that videos in the YouTube Kids app are narrowed down to content appropriate for kids."
There are still different age brackets of kids and very likely content that's outside their curation filters that my kid will want to see, so I'll look forward to seeing if they get this right -- but it's a great directional move.
Crowd curation would be cool here too at some point.
This is another prove following the trend that GEN Y and GEN Z is changing the way how content is consumed and produced at the same time. With YouTube for Kids such as also Vine KIds, we are seeing first wave of Teens focused apps - to entertain them. Curios to see other apps sharing teens communication.
Clever! I've seen a few 3rd party providers try to put a layer on top of youtube to provide curated content, but to see youtube themselves do it is fantastic.
I wonder if the logical next step is to allow users to generate/publish their own apps that link directly to their channel. (has this been done already?)
For kids who like to watch the same Youtube videos over and over again! There is a free Android app with a simple interface and parental control. Add your favourite Youtube channels, watched videos will be on top. How to add a channel: copy the URL of any video from the channel, paste in the text field, and press the Add button. Find the app by keywords 'Lensoft Video Collections' or https://play.google.com/store/ap...
