YouTube Shorts is a short-form video experience for anyone who wants to create short, catchy videos with nothing but their mobile phone. We’ve worked alongside music partners to make sure artists and creators have a library of songs to use in their Shorts.

It's a natural move by YouTube and if they get it right, can help disrupt TikTok by directly connecting short video directly to related longer form content. Right now the Shorts tab is hidden after the 3rd(ish) suggested video on the homepage which is an interesting placement. I'm assuming they did this to not appear like another "story" addition.

Makes sense from YouTube here, with TikTok, Reels, Facebook all starting to dominate the short video space it seemed out that the original founder of online video sharing was being left out. Excited to see this!

This is going to be huge for creators already on YouTube, as well as those who are on other platforms who will begin to put out content on YouTube shorts.

@jarrod_morris I agree. Especially if creators can make money like they can with regular YouTube videos (without having to find their own sponsors, etc).

I feel that this is going to fail because they will integrate it within the actual app. Nowadays, Facebook has that many additional features that overwhelms the user and this is what is going to happen with YouTube. If I want to watch a livestream I go to Twitch. If I want a short video I go to TikTok. And if I want longer videos I’m going to YouTube. Same happens when i want to watch a show, I go to Netflix. My point here is that when an app has a lot of features, people doesn’t know what is the main goal of the app anymore. Some people says that Reels are a success, but the point is that almost any reel, is a repost from TikTok. The only real success? Stories from Instagram because they have their own place in the app right at the top, so it’s really easy to know where there are without doing any action, just opening the app. People are looking to get something with 1 tap and without scrolling, that’s why TikTok have succeed, because you open the all and you can start to watch videos, without doing anything at all. But of course, just my opinion

What makes TikTok so compelling is having it be a mobile only platform. Will the YouTube Shorts feature have the scroll like TikTok does?
