@chrisbuttenham@drakoumel Sure! It's not entirely complete or up to date anymore, I haven't updated it for recent batches, and it's missing some startups from Mexico... but it's a start! I'm definitely going to check out DataCircle for my next side project :)
This is pretty neat! I think it would help if you can list founders' Twitter handles for every company. Reaching out to them would be second in my list after sorting the startups based on location which it serves well.
@ramonrecuero Yes, I'm on a Windows Chrome. And I do see 2-letter codes for e.g. "FI" or "RU", but not for PL (misses the 2nd char) or LT (misses both).
@ekambos Nigeria is one of the fastest growing countries in term of accepted companies in the last batches. We hope to see other countries join this trend
Hi everyone,
We put together a map that shows where YC companies are from. It’s based on the location of the founders before applying for YC.
As a founder and previous YC applicant, I know how daunting the application process can be, especially, when you are far away from San Francisco. I’m originally from Madrid and I experienced this feeling first-hand. Being able to reach out to YC founders from your country and hear about their experience can really make a difference. Unfortunately, this information wasn’t readily available at the time. Now that I work for YC, I wanted to help build this. You can click on your country (or nearby ones) to find alumni.
You can check the full story behind it here: http://blog.ycombinator.com/yc-w...
Any feedback is appreciated!
Thank you
@ramonrecuero India--> ZipPhone -- Site seems to have malware. Unless that's their business model. Also, India--> TapToLearn - When you click on the iTunes listings, I get a blank page.
@ramonrecuero - hi. very interesting map. i am really interested in the comments on who is excluded or not, and would appreciate a response. might do a little something with the data.
@embed_api That's most certainly not the case! We've funded several companies from MENA including two from Egypt and one from the UAE. I personally went and visited several middle eastern (and predominantly muslim) countries last year to encourage more such companies to apply. We are very interested in funding more companies from MENA.
@snowmaker Yeah 3 companies in +20 countries in MENA and 10 other countries in Africa and I have personaliy applied many time to YC and Techncrunch and not even one would take 1 second to respond to us or just give us a chance? but people in the US or UK they get totally a chance/funded for simple ideas (app that get suggestions for movies to wacth) with no demo or prototype! just MENA region is the size of the US and not even including north Africa and so on!
