YC World is a map that shows where YC companies are from. It’s based on the location of the founders before applying for YC.

Just FYI that Singapore is missing in the map 😅
Benjamin Alijagić
This is cool! By the way, I think you're missing some Croatian and Slovenian companies - @GetBellaBeat, @PovioLabs, @DoubleRecall.
Ramon Recuero
Thank you, Benjamin. It is not an exhaustive list but we'll do our best to keep it as accurate as possible
Sam Couch
I'd be more interested in state-level location than country, any chance this would be added?
Ramon Recuero
@samuelcouch We may add this soon :) Thank you for the feedback

Awsome! Hope to see at least 1 start-up from each country in the future.

Would be nice to be able to click on Israel without having to zoom in 5 levels on the map
Chris Buttenham
Amazing! We did this for 500 Startups too :). A map is a natural way to experience I think. http://500.earth
Chris Zioutas
@chrisbuttenham would it be also possible to share the raw data?
Alex Sopinka
@drakoumel @chrisbuttenham Hey! I just did a dump of our data, you can find it here: https://github.com/asopinka/500e...
Chris Zioutas
@chrisbuttenham @alexsopinka Mind if I upload it to https://datacircle.io/? Ofcourse proper attribution will be given 😊
Alex Sopinka
@chrisbuttenham @drakoumel Sure! It's not entirely complete or up to date anymore, I haven't updated it for recent batches, and it's missing some startups from Mexico... but it's a start! I'm definitely going to check out DataCircle for my next side project :)
Chris Zioutas
@chrisbuttenham @alexsopinka You just gave me an idea for marking data sets as no longer up to date :) The dataset can be found here http://bit.ly/2jwjhvR . Hope attribution is good enough

This is pretty neat! I think it would help if you can list founders' Twitter handles for every company. Reaching out to them would be second in my list after sorting the startups based on location which it serves well.
Ramon Recuero
@tmatthewj thank you, that's a great idea

...how do I select Singapore?
Artem Smirnov
The 2-letter country code is buggy -- need a font that supports European characters I guess. Just try Norway or some East European country.
Ramon Recuero
@artem_smirnov Can you explain a little more what you mean? Norway doesn't work for you?
Ramon Recuero
@artem_smirnov I see, you should see flags, no country codes. Are you on a windows computer? We need to add a secondary font. Thank you
Artem Smirnov
@ramonrecuero Yes, I'm on a Windows Chrome. And I do see 2-letter codes for e.g. "FI" or "RU", but not for PL (misses the 2nd char) or LT (misses both).

Like always africa s almost empty. We keep getting ignored. One day ...
Ramon Recuero
@ekambos Nigeria is one of the fastest growing countries in term of accepted companies in the last batches. We hope to see other countries join this trend

Hi everyone, We put together a map that shows where YC companies are from. It’s based on the location of the founders before applying for YC. As a founder and previous YC applicant, I know how daunting the application process can be, especially, when you are far away from San Francisco. I’m originally from Madrid and I experienced this feeling first-hand. Being able to reach out to YC founders from your country and hear about their experience can really make a difference. Unfortunately, this information wasn’t readily available at the time. Now that I work for YC, I wanted to help build this. You can click on your country (or nearby ones) to find alumni. You can check the full story behind it here: http://blog.ycombinator.com/yc-w... Any feedback is appreciated! Thank you

@ramonrecuero India--> ZipPhone -- Site seems to have malware. Unless that's their business model. Also, India--> TapToLearn - When you click on the iTunes listings, I get a blank page.
Ebrahim-Khalil Hassen
@ramonrecuero - hi. very interesting map. i am really interested in the comments on who is excluded or not, and would appreciate a response. might do a little something with the data.
Steve McLeod
@ramonrecuero You left the entire country of New Zealand off your world map. Are you trolling New Zealanders? :)

Very nice Map but what's crazy is like they don't even accept anyone from Muslim countries! just check the map!
Jared Friedman
@embed_api That's most certainly not the case! We've funded several companies from MENA including two from Egypt and one from the UAE. I personally went and visited several middle eastern (and predominantly muslim) countries last year to encourage more such companies to apply. We are very interested in funding more companies from MENA.
EmbedAPI
@snowmaker Yeah 3 companies in +20 countries in MENA and 10 other countries in Africa and I have personaliy applied many time to YC and Techncrunch and not even one would take 1 second to respond to us or just give us a chance? but people in the US or UK they get totally a chance/funded for simple ideas (app that get suggestions for movies to wacth) with no demo or prototype! just MENA region is the size of the US and not even including north Africa and so on!
Chris Zioutas
@ramoneecuero would it be possible to share the raw dataset?
Ramon Recuero
It's JS, the dataset is already there if you look hard enough ;)
david david
it is very interesting, it is an independent company

Who cares?

Would be greater if it were mobile friendly. I'm tapping and it's not so responsive on iPhone 5SE
