Selecting the right product is tricky though: there are 17 UV filters used in sunscreen in the US (and 27 in the rest of the world), each of them with their pros and cons. Does the sunscreen provide enough UVA protection? How likely it is to irritate my skin? Will it sting my eyes? Can I use it on a baby? Will it work for my dark skin? Will it look greasy? I've met people who maintain lengthy spreadsheets with ingredient notes just to be able to identify a sunscreen that is right for them. Others simply pick up the first product on a drugstore shelf, often ending up with a sunscreen they can't use because it is too greasy or burns their eyes.
