A little concerned about the extra animations. Although this is BEAUTIFUL and well redesigned... A lot of the functionality within Waze requires a quick input to alert other drivers of a hazard or upcoming scenario. This update didn't really address that at all.
What I like most about this update is that it feels like a natural evolution of Waze, not a complete redesign or rebrand. The app still feels like Waze but now with a much tighter experience. That's hard to do....congrats @noamb11!
I still struggle with Waze in LA traffic. More often than not to try and avoid congestion on a major freeway it takes me off onto side streets which end up worse or more congested and it doesn't seem to react and adjust the route. I'll be excited to see if the updates here might improve some of that.
This update put this app on my main homepage. I've been using it for a few days now instead of Google Maps & Apple Maps. This is a fantastic update to an already good app. Attention to detail is amazing. Well done!
They finally got rid of the Christmas tree effect. cleaner. unfortunately search is still not as good as google maps which has by far the best and most accurate experience.
Love the new interface. While the old one worked, it felt sluggish and overbearing at times. I think this new one is fantastic. Wonderful job. Perfect amount of 'design' and 'usability'.
We love WAZE! / we tried to use google maps last week in NYC / but WAZE blew that idea out of the water / love the concept and works like a charm ... GREAT to see WAZE in the mixx on product hunt for sure. ;)
I have been a user of Waze/advocate since the first Beta in 2007. All before the acquisition by Google. Waze has been the navigation I have preferred over TomTom, Garmin, or Navi. Initially what set Waze apart was that it was considered social. Users individual devices would automatically send back traffic conditions and I found these provided the most up to date conditions. Waze also encourages users to submit information while in route. These updates can provide future alerts for your route. Every year when we travel Interstate 81 in the US over Thanksgiving we encounter horrific traffic for approximately 20 miles. Waze has alerted us in advance and re-routed us saving a 1.5 hour delay.
Even after playing with this for just a few minutes, the attention to detail in the interactions is really quite stunning. I LOVE the animation of all the little icons when you tap the action button to mark the map.
Another awesome touch, when you start any action, the modal popups are usually timed, so if you're driving, you don't need to press "back", the screen will automatically minimize if no action is taken within a certain time. It brings you right back to the main GPS view and you can enter in details of the accident or hazard when you're safely off the road!
Cheers guys, keep up the great work.
I can't even remember how life was before Waze! I have used it in UK, Poland, USA, Israel and probably other places. On rare occassions I still use Gmaps, but I find Waze much more accurate. This update is just he icing on the cake. The colors are cool.
I've actually never used Waze, perhaps because I am in the UK and it doesn't seem to be as big as in the US... @noamb11 - what is the usage outside of the US looking like currently and is there any focus on international expansion?
Could you also let us know of the updates in the version 4.0? 😄
I really like the new design. All the animations feel really good. It's got a fun ''Paper Mario" feel where things pop in and out in a very satisfying way.
The new interface is awesome. I used it the other day. Huge improvement over the old one! Only issue I had was with navigation it seems to zoomed out for me by default.
