WalkSmart is an AI web app that generates walking tours based on your preferences. Get a detailed tour with audio narration and open the full route on Google Maps with one click.
π Hey Product Hunt!
I'm excited to share WalkSmart.AI with you today! πΆ πΆββοΈ πΆββοΈ
The idea sparked while I was working remotely in Riga, using ChatGPT to create walking tours and explore the city. It worked okayish, but previewing the tour only in text form and having to open each stop on Google Maps was a bit annoying.
So I build a better version, this is how it works:
1) Visit the website and choose a starting point (just a city or be specific).
2) Optionally customize the tour: duration, preferences, random things you want to do... anything.
3) Get a detailed tour with overview of each stop, and open the full route on Google Maps with one click.
4) Optionally convert the tour into an audio guided tour, for the full experience π§
Behind the scenes, itβs powered by a RAG setup that merges AI-generated tours with Google Maps & Places API π€
I come from a product design background, and WalkSmart.AI is my first solo-coded project from start to finish. Itβs been an incredible learning journey, but Iβd love to hear your thoughts and feedback π« Also if you have ideas for new features please share!
By signing up you get 2 credits, but for ππ PRODUCT HUNT USERS ONLY ππ if you want more to test or to generate audio tour feel free to DM me on twitter and I'll send them over!
Give WalkSmart.AI a try, and thanks for your support πΆββοΈβ€οΈ
All the best π
@marcelokunze thanks for this. I built something similar, however I ran into issues related to ChatGPT ie. The API refused to return exact GPS coordinates for landmarks and it wouldn't serve photos of landmarks.
I'm curious as to whether you encountered these issues?
@dara_burke1 I didn't try to extract GPS coordinates from OpenAI, using the locations names I fetch all the information from Directions API from Google. For the photos I'm using Places API (also Google) for now, it takes the first picture from Google Maps. I'm already studying other sources because the quality is a little bit unpredictable.
Great toolβI'm already using! Some of the key use cases for me are:
1/ Make a walking tour in a specific area I haven't explored yet
2/ Compare the suggested tour with a guided city tour provided by special services with professionals guide so that I can choose a better option
Hi Marcelo. This looks interesting.
Quick question. Are you tracking, how many people are filling in the form, and how many of them then go on to create an account?
Personally, I can't stand it, when I take the time to fill in a form, only to be told in the next step, that I have to create an account. So, I usually leave.
@danischenker That is a fair point, yes. I will definitely implement this tracking, but I'm not currently. Not sure if this helps your situation, but at least after creating account you don't have to re-fill the form, it remembers what you entered :)
@to_p You can check the pricing on the "Get Credits" button in the logged in page. Each credit represents a tour generation. Then to convert to audio tour, it's 3 additional credits.
I don't have download option at the moment but could implement for sure. Would you use it? The audios have commercial license.
@marcelokunze thanks a lot, I'm a bit hesitant to sign up without knowing the pricing, and maybe I'm not the only one. Why don't you publish the pricing on the website, without the need to sign up?
I love exploring cities on my own, also when I'm traveling with family. This app seems like the ideal tool to help me navigate unfamiliar cities/places with ease. I'm excited to put it to test.
Cool product and I can totally see this being part of all my travels. I can even see an Audio tour feature on top happening.
I think the challenge here is to keep users to remember that this service can help, additionally, how would you look at monitisation?
This is exactly what I needed for my upcoming Europe trip! Been frustrated with piecing together walking routes from various blogs and guides - love how WalkSmart.AI streamlines the whole process. The audio guide feature is a game-changer, and the Google Maps integration makes it super practical. Really impressive for a solo project, especially the AI-powered customization. Already planning to use this in Amsterdam next month! πΆββοΈβ¨
Congratulations on the launch! I'm curious, how do you ensure the walking routes are safe and accessible for all users, especially those with mobility challenges?
@ihuzaifashoukat Thank you! I don't for now... but about the accessibility it shouldn't be too difficult to do with Google APIs, will probably try to add this. In regards to safety I'm not sure how I'd judge the safety of the route, but I'm sure there is a way :)
@marcelokunze I love the concept! So much so that I'm pretty sure we're trying to solve a similar issue for travellers ourselves.
Gets an upvote for sure. Keep it up!
