Congrats on launching! Love the landing page and messaging. A lot of my friends struggle with startup stock options. Vesting period, early exercise, strike price 409A. All of these concepts are very confusing and online information + internal company comms can often be difficult to parse. Do you offer tax advice to help startup employees think through when/how much to exercise and the tax consequences?
Andrew Brackin
@realsimonburns Absolutely. We're working on a huge set of content created around some of these complex tax issues with startup options/stock being the first topic we're going to cover. Because of the diversity of experience in our team, we have a number of experts in this field that have worked with hundreds of previous tech employee clients. Due to the nature of year-round advice, we can offer support/guidance at every step including when you first receive your options, when you've hit your cliff, before a major funding event and after the company exits. If you're exercising a large amount of stock we can also help you understand AMT and how to optimise this year's income.

Visor is your new personal tax advisor. U.S. taxes are complicated and managing this can save you a significant amount of money in the long term. We saw an industry where finding an accountant means searching on yelp, paying a high hourly rate and not having access to year-round advice when you can actually use it! Those filing for themselves often struggle to know if they’re missing out on savings or how to respond to the IRS if they make a mistake. Visor is a hybrid approach. We are a full service personal tax firm with 40+ tax advisors based in Atlanta, Georgia that use our technology. We take a lot of boring, inefficient work out of the process for them (such as emails and data entry). So that they can focus on working with customers directly. These efficiencies lets us give you access to an accountant anytime you have a financial decision, instead of just at tax time for a flat annual fee. Today we're announcing we've raised $6.5M from Obvious Ventures, Social Capital, Lux Capital, Box Group and more.

@brackin This is baller. Really would love to add you guys to https://getsyrup.com. You'd make a great "companion" to Bench
Michael Goldstrom
@brackin I tried to do that, but after going through the whole questionnaire, it asked to confirm my email at the end of filling out the form. I never received the email. Tried a few times (refilling out the questionnaire each time). I tried reaching out on your contact form, and the same thing, couldn't get through. I sent an email to hi@myvisor.com, it said it wouldn't go through.

@brackin why don’t you have a customer derive phone number? Waiting to receive messages from my “tax advisor” is like pulling teeth. I am still doubtful my taxes will be filed by the 15th.

Great job, @gzacke and team! And huge congrats on your raise! Being a foreigner I for sure want to simplify these tings. Some feedback to your quota form: * A citizen and resident is not the same thing. I was a resident for all of 2017, but I'm not a citizen. * Include a back button on the form in case you need to go back and change things. * A slider is not always the way to go. Looks cool, but it's way simpler to add a number. Good luck!

@aurorakb Thanks so much for the feedback. We'll be refreshing the onboarding in the coming weeks to make the flow even smoother.

I can't think of any other way to handle my taxes.

Pros:

Great solution to a real problem

Cons:

Can't think of any con

This comment is outdated, since this was posted, they have gone through a complete rebranding and reorganization. They have a completely different service model now and it is not what it was in 2017.

They never submitted my payment for my tax and now I will be charged about $3,000 in late payment fees because of that mistake. I had to go and call the IRS myself to manually submit my payment. Since then they are dismissing all my messages and will probably decline liability... Very disappointed. I wanted this startup to work and disrupt the industry and was early adopter but they did a very poor job that ended up costing me a lot of money... I should have continued with HR Block... Will never use again

Pros:

Buggy but simple flow and document upload.

Cons:

They never submitted my tax payment which incurred late payment fees.

Similar to other reviewers, Visor did not complete my filing on time and customer service cannot tell me when it will be done. I had to reach out to the reps multiple times to get any answers on the status of my filing. I would avoid using this service at all.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Never completed filing

Victor Sánchez

They ask for more money when the signup offer was clear about including everything.

Pros:

Idea

Cons:

Errors in the app and bad customer service.

Yoav Cosiol
Is the service strictly limited to tax advice or also financial advice? Geared more to personal or small business?
AB

DO NOT USE THEM. They're useless. No customer service. Sporadic communication with no substance about when the work will be done. Took money upfront and have provided me with no filing. I've also gotten no update about whether they've filed for an extension. Any purported savings you're going to get are worthless if the services are never rendered.

Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

DO NOT USE THEM.

Erik Weber

After having my tax documents for several months, they did not complete my return in time. They filed a Federal extension with 6 hours remaining on Tax Day. Then two days later I discovered they had not filed a State tax extension. Their response? "Sorry for the oversight"

Pros:

None

Cons:

They don't deliver the service, and customer service ghosts you. Avoid if you actually want your taxes filed on time.

This company really has to step up its game. People trust the expertise and it seems like they don't have it yet. I called three times asking about a specific follow-up question to the onbboarding call I had and no one knew the answer because they don't have tax expertise... (isn't that what the company does)? What's more - they sold me on a specific service through the on-boarding call and never actually implemented it, which led to a loss on my part (.. and of course because I didn't have the expertise, I only knew about this when an actual accountant told me why the previous accountants didn't make a specific change).

Pros:

Good UI, feels secure

Cons:

Bad customer service and lack of expertise. CANNOT BE TRUSTED

Steve Hershman

I paid but can't get a real answer to any question or for them to file my taxes. What is this?!

Pros:

nothing

Cons:

they need more CPAs; the do nothing after being unable to file my taxes on time, they are asking me to fill out the extension the form.

Emily Sharata

NO CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER

Pros:

Can’t think of any

Cons:

This company is supposed to be “the Uber for taxes” but they are more like “the Fyre festival for taxes”

Matt Thieleman

Asked for a refund once I discovered the Cons above.

Pros:

Pros don't matter when their service isn't helpful.

Cons:

Chat support is unresponsive. And they don't allow customers to talk to their tax person until everything is complete and ready for review.

Raphael Chaves de Araújo

Horrible product! Run away! Made several mistakes in my tax filling.

Pros:

If everything goes well, it is good

Cons:

Horrible service. Made several errors. Don't recommend.

KL

They quoted me $549 for an MBA tax deduction then took over a year to complete the taxes, then charged me $799 and mach a bunch of mistakes. This is a complete scam.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Quote one price then charge another, make a lot of mistakes, not responsive, take many months to complete taxes, rude staff

Poca Dots

I paid to have my taxes done in October (they ran promo), uploaded all my documents in February. Taxes are due today and Visor has neither filed my taxes nor filed for an extension. They manufactured lies each week. They kept telling lies about the status of my taxes until Friday, April 12th and today (tax due date) they have not bothered to respond to my messages. Yeah, I got scammed big time! Thankfully, I filed for an extension myself today. I see a class action suit in their future

Pros:

They are good scam artists :)

Cons:

Thieves. Liars. Useless. Incompetent are appropriate adjectives for Visor

Ryan Fanelli

They explicitly confirmed that they filed an extension for me when they didn't. Hire a tax professional that doesn't lie.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Terrible communication

Chris Hennen

If you need real tax advice go to a local CPA or find a better national firm. For the amount of "service" you get from them, buy the cheapest version of TurboTax you can get and use that. These people are very very cautious CPA's who are just following input from a system like HR Block or Liberty Tax service. No need to go online and do it, clunky interface, sporadic communication, I almost always had to reach out to get information. Separately from a normal tax filing. I had one refile in process from 2 years ago and they abruptly stopped it and said they "no longer offer the service" now I have to find a local company to do it.

Pros:

Cheap-ish

Cons:

Cheap service.

Absolute nightmare of an experience. SO MANY PROBLEMS 1) I sent them my documents in February and they didn't end up getting them submitted until late May 2) they didn't actually do my return right! I had to get on the phone with the CPA and show him what he did wrong to get me my full refund! 3) for the efile they switched my routing number with someone elses and the payments never went through!!!! I had to follow up with federal and six different states individually to correct the payments. 4) HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - it would take up to a week for them to get back to me and they never had the right information! DO NOT USE - worst experience I've ever had in taxes
