@dilthemd Thank you so much for the support! Means a lot to us to hear that. Would love to hear what you think of the product after using it for some time. Feel free to reach out to me directly @cohen_ari or ari@vibby.com. Always happy to chat!
This is awesome! Is this all done through YouTube's API? If so, are you legally allowed to do that from their API rules?
Any other video sources being used besides YouTube?
Also, have you guys thought of building out a platform or API for people to plug into so they can include Vibby videos in their apps? Content curation is a big space right now. Congrats guys!
@mikeyahdoot Thanks for the support! Yes it is all done through YouTube's API. We do not violate any terms of use from YouTube. We see Vibby as being a layer above other video hosting websites that lets viewers engage with that content in a more personalized way.
At the moment, we are compatible with YouTube. By mid-next week we will be releasing Vimeo compatibility as well. In the coming months we'll be adding other major video sources such as Twitch, FB video and others.
Awesome idea with the open API! Definitely something we have planned in our product roadmap. Cant say yet exactly when we'll be able to release that but I couldn't agree more that this would be a great opportunity to push vibs out on numerous platforms.
I'll circle back with you when we have some more concrete plans around the API.
Thank you for the great feedback!
@mikeyahdoot to confirm what @cohen_ari has said: we are definitely going towards an open API which would allow anyone to use Vibby as a layer to build upon.
We are currently working with several partners who will be using Vibby technology very closely in their products. Right now, we are defining the API based on their needs.
If you or anyone you know would be interested in discussing the specifics of the API, we'd love to jump on a call and see how we can make videos even more flexible :)
Clips are big... it takes commitment to watch a video of any length and people are so distracted, its hard enough to get them to commit to any amount of time.
Really interested in where this space will go. We see similar solutions for gaming and I wonder how 'highlights' will work across non 'sport-related' videos.
@bentossell Absolutely! Some of our A/B tests (we display Vibby vs "normal YouTube") showed that users are about 4x more likely to watch the highlights then to even start watching the full length video.
Vibby is also heavily used in education. There is also a lot of long-form content, and you often only need to share and discuss several specific bits. This is also how we ourselves first "felt" this pain and decided to build the technology :)
@ivosluganovic How do you determine the 'highlights' from a video?
Will there be a curated feed of clips of the day/week for me to flick through in topics that interest me?
@bentossell We let anyone take a YouTube video, clip the highlights that they want and share the resulting "vib". So all content is generated by our users.
We do have a weekly digest, and we do feature high quality vibs on our site at the moment, but we want to be moving towards creating personalized feed for each user based on their interests and who they follow.
@ivosluganovic I see... Have you explored having pre-screened curators to cover different topics? The thing I'd be concerned about is what the biggest incentive for someone to create these highlights... is me being known as a good 'highlighter' to my friends/others a big enough reason for me to want to do it? OR would I rather someone do all the hard work for me and I just get to enjoy the clips :)
@bentossell Yes. We do have some "Featured" users who we know create high quality content (be it for their respective sites/communities, etc.), and we are giving them more exposure, and this will only increase.
Tha's true. Usually a small minority of people creates content, some of them engage it, and most are just passive observers, and we are no exception here (1-9-90 rule).
On the other hand, the numbers that we are seeing so far are better than the expected 1-9-90, which we really love to see :)
@gabrielreynard Thanks! A big focus of ours was placed on making Vibby as user friendly as possible for those of us who are not expert video creators 😀 Would love to hear if there's anything specific I can help you with on Vibby. Don't hesitate to reach out!
#PHReview: Really intuitive explainer video on the website! I'm not much of a YouTuber, but I can see how Vibby will be used. Would be really nice feature to export the videos to GIF format. Not sure if GIF format is currently in the product or on the roadmap, but GIFs are everywhere and might help Vibby grow.
@sethlouey Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Vibby allows you to repurpose existing videos and focus your viewers attention on the moments that really matter. This is especially important for people like me who have a very short attention span and not much experience with YouTube 😊
Its funny that you bring up GIF's, I have always said that Vibby is a tool that sits between video and GIF's. In the same way that Vibby allows you to highlight certain moments and display them as video, GIF does the same, just presents the moments you selected in a different, and more limiting form.
Anyways, its definitely something we are considering building directly into our product. In the mean time, here is a little side hack that you can use to create GIF's from vibs. 😉https://www.producthunt.com/tech...
I love the idea, I love the implementation.
To be honest I expected YouTube itself to make such a simple tool which would let non professionals to highlight some parts of the video, and publish it, but you've kicked ass with this feature.
At the same time I think there is some room for improvement on UX side:
1. I am sure it would be great to let the newcomer to experience the product without making him to login. The product is so superb, once someone uses it, he will definitely register, meanwhile preventing him to use the product without logging in may bring you to losing some potential customers. A demo version would a be a great solution.
2. The "Vibby" link in the top left corner leading to https://www.vibby.com/explore sometimes opens just a plane white screen with only top navigation in there. Jumping to dashboard and then clicking Vibby link again solves the problem.
3. Once I am done highlighting and have moved to STEP 3 there is no way back to STEP 2 except the browser back button. Bad :(
Keep up the great work! Good luck!
@aramiggs Thanks, we really appreciate it :)
1. We thought so to. We actually went to great lengths to implement the creation process and commenting which does not require user signup. Then we turned the option off and realized our conversion rates went up 3.5 times! It seems that average user is not that bothered by a (simple!) account creation.
But to be fair, there is probably another design decision that helps: 2 step signup process.
The button only tells "Try it", so you get curious. You then choose a video that you want to try Vibby on, so you invest some time and put some effort into it. And then we ask you to register. If you now drop out, your time is wasted. So you continue. Annoying, I know, but it works :)
@aramiggs 2. I am sorry to hear that. If you could take a screenshot of the console when this happens, that would be awesome!
3. Thanks, that's a valid point. cc @venne_gervu :)
Cool work Ari,Ivo and Troy ! I logged in yesterday and created a vibby ,but I couldn't "get it" that time . My intention was to create a teaser for a video ;but thought I would rather edit it using adobe premier and upload . But now I get it ! It helps me to share highlights from clips by others/me quickly and effectively :).
@akhilmknair yes, we that the idea of "highlighting" a video or repurposing it without downloading+cuting+reuploading is not immediately obvious to everyone - but once they try it, they get it, and they love it! :)
@troy_ruediger I hope it isn't too preposterous to say that I am trying to gather all the intelligence and wisdom of human civilization alive on YouTube. For example I am condensing the coolest of Elon Musk insights as I watch them.
I have just now created a vib from an mind-blowing Terrence McKenna talk that challenges our perceptions on 'Coincidences' . Vibby empowers me like no other tool out there on the web. Thanks a ton for asking. Love you guys :D
@wasim117@vibby Thanks for taking the time to send over the email. Your suggestion is great! I've already passed it along to our product team and we'll work on getting it implemented asap.
Appreciate the feedback!
@armen_mkrtchian Thanks, we are really happy to hear that!
It took as many, many iterations to get where we are, and we have some nice improvements down the pipeline to make it even more seamless and fast. We'll keep you updated ;)
@cohen_ari@ivosluganovic : Hi Ari and Ivo : Thanks for this supercool tool with a supercool name @vibby . Though I haven't used it till now but your pitching excites me to do so once I reach home ( I am on journey:) )
Just few questions:
You wrote " try for free " on the website. Does it mean that it will be charged after some trial days or months. I don't think this so...
Dealing with the video highlighting and yet no video demo or instruction. Sounds uncool...please do so.
What about licensing issues of real video which we change into new smaller but emphatic video? How do you protect the interest of real makers ? Do you put any watermark on it or cite a link to the real video at last ? Or you will leave this to the wisdom of users to use it the way they want to use .
It's a great tool but where is the business ? Any current pricing or ad plans or will you think about it later?
Thank you.
Nitesh Manav
PS: don't mind spelling mistakes. As I said I am on journey and using mobile to type :)
@niteshmanav@cohen_ari@ivosluganovic@vibby
Looks like there is a video in the preview above. Also, on the landing page of Vibby. I'm not sure when it was added, but you can definitely check it out now.
@niteshmanav@ivosluganovic@vibby
Thanks for great questions and happy to hear you like the name!
Valid point about adding a video. We just added a brief walkthrough that can be found in the upper right corner of PH page as well as our landing page: https://youtu.be/9DkgbhfLFKg
There will always be a free version of Vibby and we’ll be rolling out additional premium features in the coming months. However to be clear, all existing features on Vibby will remain free forever. We will remain a platform that enables everyone to share the best moments from any video.
We will be exploring an ad model in the future as well, however at this time we are not serving any ads.
If you take a look at the bottom of our video player, there is always a button to “Watch full video”. A major reason for us leaving this button here is that we want people to watch highlights and in essence get teased to watch the full video.
We’ve put a lot of thought into how to protect the original creators interest and we’ll be rolling out certain features soon that will address that in a more concrete way, such as enabling content owners to opt out of allowing people to use their content on Vibby.
Put simply, enabling another person to repurpose my content without creating a separate version of it, vastly increases its value, distribution, relevance and shelf-life. The willingness of others to share video content is an excellent measure of its value, and providing tools to empower that sharing increases the value of the original content.
As we progress along revenue models we will definitely include a way for original content owners to earn their share.
I hope I address your questions. Feel free to reach out with any other feedback!
@cohen_ari@ivosluganovic@vibby Thank you for the prompt and precise answers. I am really looking forward to use this tool to use it for social marketing for my startup's FB and twitter page. I have a vision to use this. Don't know whether it will be effective or not but one thing I know for sure that you solved a really good pain point. So,
Thank you #EntrepreneursRespect :)
@niteshmanav@ivosluganovic@vibby I appreciate you saying that! Looking forward to hearing whether or not you find Vibby to be effective after some time using it for your startup's content strategy.
Don't hesitate to reach out with feedback at any time!
Hey Product Hunters!
The Vibby team and I are super excited to finally share Vibby with the community!
We founded Vibby to empower people to make the most of the awesome video content that exists online. For years, video websites have been focused on making it easier for creators to publish videos to the masses, but with that comes the challenge of content overload. The moments that matter get lost in the noise too easily.
Our vision is to build a platform that enables people to discover and share the moments that matter from any video.
In short, Vibby is the easiest way to create a highlight reel from any video. We’ve worked tirelessly to make the product as user friendly as possible. Just paste a link, highlight the parts you want to show, and share Vibby on just about any social platform of your choice.
Since launching our beta in late 2015, we’ve seen so many interesting applications for our technology but a few in particular that stand out are gaming/esports, education, content marketing and sports.
I'm excited to hear what you think about Vibby and welcome any and all questions or feedback. We have a ton of very cool features we will be releasing in the next few months so please stay tuned.
Reach out to me directly at ari@vibby.com or DM on twitter @cohen_ari with any thoughts or questions. Always happy to chat!
Thanks!
Ari
