You pointed the mask has UV-C, right? I am not the expert here, but i have read it somewhere that UV-C has a negative effect on a human. I believe you have thought about it but would like to hear more.

I'm a backer and love this idea. A few questions around the UV-C component however.
- Can you go into more details around the security measures you are putting in place to keep the mask "light sealed"?
- What testing has the product been through to confirm that this holds up during everyday use? Over time, when dropped or bumped, in high/low temperatures etc.
- Will filtration testing and ozone/emissions testing be made publicly available?
@karlnislow Thanks for your support Karl. As for your questions:
-UVMask has a fully light-sealed design so UV light will never leak out from the inner component of sterile-vortex. Also, UV-C light is 265 nm is not the same harmful UV as the primary component of sunlight that reaches us on Earth (UV-A and UV-B are dangerous).
-Impact tolerance is 1.5M drop test we conducted impact/drop tests as well as temperature tolerance tests in house.
-As you know there are a lot of researches referring that UV-C doesn't render ozone. We will consider having a public test.

I am trying to figure if this UV mask actually does what it says.
Any any certified lab test report verify the UV mask actually does what it says?
Without a certified test lab report, it is just “UV kills virus, every one know”, this does not mean much, people can get sick because they think the UV mask can protect them.
I have seen many Kickstarter campaign , use filter test report with 99.99% filtration efficiency to fool people.
The 99.99% filter does not mean much of the mask does not have good filter to mask seal. Air will always chose easy path to get to people lung, unfiltered air can get through the leak.
That is why we need test report from independent certified test lab
I love the idea. Given air travels pretty quickly through the mask, and with only 50mW of UVC, it seems insufficient. How have you scientifically proven that the dosage of UV light is appropriate for the applications? UVC LED's are notoriously low power / inefficient, thus why most UVC LED's need a very long exposure to get enough "dose" and why UVC LED's are not yet powerful enough for most applications. Sorry for the technical q's - I used to lead UV LED's at Philips / Lumileds
How difficult is it to breathe through the device? Is it comparable to a regular disposable surgical mask? Or does it breathe more like a N95? Thanks

How often you change filters depends on how you use your UVMask. See the recommendations below:
*Low use (occasional use while going out in public): Change every 2-3 weeks
*Medium use (wearing consistently over the course of a week): Change weekly
*High use (wearing for multiple hours a day): Change daily for best protection

People need to ask for independent and certified test lab report to ensure the masks does block more than 95% of Coronavirus.

They just have filter test report.
Basically, any one can buy filter from over 20 suppliers in China, get the SGS test lab to test the filter and post on their campaign.
It is kind of intentional misleading
A poor design mask can use 99.99% filter will not pass NIOSH N95 test because of the leak between the filter and the body of the mask.
@sven_kudszus it is very suspicious. Definitely a scam. Multiple class action lawsuits are in effect.
It's a great idea! I would def back it, but I have concerns about its safety.
It seems like the UV-C wavelength is 280–100 nm. I heard that at ~200 nm, it can break the oxygen bond so it can convert oxygen to ozone. How did you solve that?
and do you have to go through process like FDA approval or something similar?

@conanchou UV-C at 265nm (the wavelength we are using) does not render ozone, or ionize or make any other chemical changes to air.

@boz_zou When can we get a refund? We have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You have collected everyone's money, failed all deadlines, and still have not delivered a product that we backed. This is a scam. Waited close to 2 years to get 3 masks and still nothing. They even charged me extra for shipping and accessories several months ago but nothing was ever sent. Customer service responses are sparse but keep making promises they fail on over and over again. This is a scam praying on people in a crisis. UVMask and Kickstarter should be held accountable.
I tried so many masks, but still didn't find anything which I can wear more than 15 min. Pledged this last week, can't waiting to get mine. I really hope that it can be a solution for me.
Is this FDA approved? Are there other sources that can verify that your mask filters out as much as your company claims?

The fan is ineffective making no difference to air flow, and is soo loud that the mask is unusable. The money back guarantee is only being honoured in cases of provable financial hardship
Interesting product. UV-C creates ozone, how do you test this to make sure that this is safe?

@waking_hour @karlnislow No, UVC does not render OZone, ionization or any other chemical changes to air. (Many research or references can be found online). And the research Karl sent is a good reference.
@evan_besser Hey Evan, The UVMask breaks down the DNA of all airborne pathogens and purifies the air. And as the virus Covid 19 is one of the pathogens the UV-C light works effectively to destroy it.
Need them to make it fit variations in face sizes! I got a size small but the actual mask was too tall and narrow, getting the large rubber ring wouldn’t change that flaw. I couldn’t wear my glasses with these and couldn’t hear myself think over the two noisy fans that never turn off. Lots of air escaping from all edges as a result. Customer service seems sketchy so far.

We have carefully reviewed your case. However, we are unable to grant you a refund at this stage.
We are doing everything we can to solve issues and to continuously try and improve.
Kickstarter and Indiegogo are not online stores. Creators and Backers work together to improve the product and make progress.
Crowdfunding allows us to take an idea from the drawing board and turn it into something feasible. During the development of such an intricate product there will be ups and downs. This is to be expected, nonetheless we will always put in the effort to try and rectify matters the best we can.

I was one of the first backers of this mask and had to wait nearly a year to receive the product which was fine but when I got the mask in May I was immediately disappointed at how heavy the mask was and how difficult it was to breathe and for anyone to hear or understand me when I spoke with it on. I did a return request and paid for return shipping the very same month but have been struggling for the past 7 months to receive my refund. I have been in constant contact with the team and have been getting the run around for over half a year now. I am very sorry I ever backed this product as it's been a headache and inconvenience ever since.
