Hey ProductHunt Community 👋❤️ I'm Alex, a designer and co-founder of uRace. We're excited to introduce a mobile game for runners, cyclists, swimmers, and hikers. You’ve probably seen apps using gamification to add a bit of fun to your workouts, but what if someone turned your real-life activities into a true game? Think thrilled races (like game levels), global competition, additional game modes, and leaderboards where runners can compete with cyclists, or swimmers — all matched to your skill level. Imagine Duolingo, but for most popular cyclic sports. Whether you're a beginner looking to build a habit or an athlete craving an extra dose of challenge, uRace has something for everyone. To complete a level(race), choose a sport and cover a specific distance within a set number of days. The game encourages different strategies — you can cover a long distance in one go or spread it out over several days. In addition to races inspired by world landmarks, history and folklore, and eye-catching visuals, uRace offers a balanced system of rewards and challenges that keeps players coming back. We've built uRace with: - Free-to-play access; - A built-in GPS tracker plus sync support with STRAVA (soon: Garmin and Wahoo); - Virtual medals and finisher PDF diplomas; - Global competitions with level-based leagues; - Leaderboards - Extra game modes and more. What makes it unique? Smart Opponent Selector: Compete in leagues from Wooden to Diamond, facing athletes matched to your level. Unified Point System: Fair scoring lets runners, cyclists, and swimmers compete in the same leagues. Anti-Cheat System: We’re all about fair play, detecting anything from driving instead of running to GPS manipulation. Our goal? We aim to redefine game-based motivation in fitness training by focusing on engaging single-player experiences and fair multiplayer virtual competitions. Our goal is to create an environment where users can challenge themselves, enjoy friendly competition, and have a dose of fun along the way. Thank you for your support, Product Hunt❤️ We’re just getting started, so we'd love your feedback! 🌟 Let us know what features you’d like to see in future updates.

@alex_fino Congrats, Alex! How do you balance fair competition across different sports, and what’s the tech behind your Anti-Cheat system?
Alex Fino
@tonyabracadabra Thanks, Tony! In uRace, you can choose from running, cycling, swimming, or walking for each race. The total distance depends on the sport—e.g., 10 km running = 35 km cycling. For the competition with others in leaderboard, we’ve designed our own point system: Participants from different sports compete equally using a points system based on sport type, gender, age, pace, distance, elevation, and even weather conditions (e.g., more points for training in bad weather). This ensures fairness for all athletes.👌 Our Anti-Cheat System checks segments of uploaded tracks, comparing speed, pace, and accelerations. It also detects manual edits, GPS simulators, and more, ensuring fair play. We're very proud of these developments.🙂

A few more words about what we have under the hood: AI Opponent Selector The Smart Opponent Selector is based on AI and ensures you always compete against players of similar skill levels, making every race thrilling. Unique Points System Participants from various sports compete side by side, thanks to a sophisticated points system that ensures fair play. Points are allocated based on sport type, gender, age, pace, distance, elevation, and even weather conditions. This allows cyclists, runners, and swimmers to compete within the same league on an equal footing. Anti-Cheat System uRace is committed to fair competition. The app analyzes workouts to detect and reject suspicious activities like driving a car instead of running or cheating with GPS. Another example: our system does not accept reused workouts, we detect such tracks by checking a unique checksum. This ensures fair competition on our platform, since each training must be unique and cannot be reused.

I like the concept – at least makes people moving :) Wish you gl with the launch :)
Alex Fino
@busmark_w_nika Thank you! I am convinced that we have created a useful app that provides motivation and engagement for daily sports activities. :)
Alex Fino
@busmark_w_nika For sure. But honestly, it was a bit less than I expected. Product Hunt isn’t really a sports-focused platform, so I didn’t find as many running enthusiasts as I hoped. Still, it was great to share the project, and the feedback was super positive. We almost made it into the top 10 for the day, even with most of the attention going to AI projects right now. That alone feels like a win, and I’m more motivated than ever to keep going🙂
Business Marketing with Nika
@alex_fino I feel you, this place is more oriented onto CRMs, AI tools etc but to be ranked in the first TOP 10 is quite success :) Wish you GL on your journey :)

Can you share your thoughts on designing this product?
Alex Fino
@alexxiang Thanks for your question. Designing uRace was a blend of creativity, problem-solving in gameplay and balance, and a lot of passion for fitness.😃 We focused on striking the right balance between competition and motivation, ensuring users feel engaged but not overwhelmed. Features like AI-matched opponents and an anti-cheat system were thoughtfully implemented to ensure fair and exciting experiences. We dedicated significant time to the design and are proud of how everything looks and feels.😎 I’m especially glad we chose React Native for cross-platform development and incorporated modern AI solutions to enhance performance and usability. This approach allowed us to create the app at a remarkably fast pace! Ultimately, our vision was to create more than just a fitness app. It’s a community-driven game designed to inspire people to stay active and connect with others around the globe.🚀

@alex_fino AI matches opponents and connects with others around the world. These are all social and sound cool. Is it free for users to use?
Alex Fino
@alexxiang Yes, of course! This feature is free and designed to keep users engaged and make the experience exciting. uRace doesn’t show any ads, and all features are free to use. However, there are small time-based limits—such as a replenishing energy system that restricts the number of workouts you can upload at a time. For those looking for more flexibility, there’s a pro subscription that offers unlimited access and additional ways to track your workouts.

I've got to say, any platform that is partaking in gamification I think really understand the psychology of their users at the moment - People LIKE to be motivated & to be given a challenge...this is NEXT-LEVEL & I'm sure people are going to get hooked on it.
Alex Fino
@cranqnow Thanks, Sam! I believe that gamified addiction can be redirected towards forming a good habit in our case.

I like the idea of offering virtual medal and diplomas which will greatly motivate users to move more. Good luck to your launch!

As someone who gets bored easily with fitness apps, uRace actually keeps me motivated! 🏃‍♂️ The virtual racing is genius - having someone (slightly) faster to chase after makes my morning runs way more exciting. And those shiny medals? Yeah, I'm embarrassingly proud of my virtual trophy collection 😅 Just hit my first 50km milestone and it felt like beating a video game boss. Way more fun than staring at boring stats! 🏆
Alex Fino
@ethanyu Thank you Ethan! We’re thrilled to have you on board✌️.
Barbara
Oh, this is nice. 🏃 Lately, it’s been hard to find the motivation to run, but hopefully, now I can compete with my friends and get back on track! Does it support live tracking during the activity or just post-activity updates?
Alex Fino
@barbbarb Thank you! ❤️ You’ve got plenty of options to choose from: you can use the built-in GPS tracker for live tracking or upload your workouts from Strava (or Garmin and Wahoo—coming in the next update).
Dan Balan
Congrats, Alex! Thanks to uRace, I finally started closing my activity ring on a daily basis. Looking forward to winter sports features covering cross-country skiing.
Alex Fino
@danbalan Thank you, Dan! Hah, we'll think about skiing⛷️ 🙂
