I'm super excited about the Uptime platform and team. It combines some of the best trends in snackable, educational content with an editorial angle that splits the difference between Blinkist and the Kindle Unlimited Reading Library.
"Hacks" are a new kind of multimedia summary that play like Stories but allow you to go deeper and leave with specific, actionable takeaways. I'm excited for the Product Hunt community to dig in and take a look!
Love it! The summaries are awesome. I have little time to read lately but scrolling through these is helping me create a wishlist and get some good ideas too.
@shivar Thanks so much for checking out the app and sending your thoughts. With your experience, any other thoughts you can share on how to improve would be most welcome!
This is really interesting. There's a good selection of content and it's well summarised. It looks like it's completely free right now, what are your monetisation plans?
@cristianmoisei Thanks for your comment and question, Cristian. All of our content is currently free, but we are introducing Subscription soon so we can deliver the best product with an ever-growing library of relevant and fresh Hacks for our users. All our existing users then will have access to our best subscription offer when we transition to our subscription model.
We also make a small commission via established affiliate schemes when people purchase the full content from any of our content providers’ books, documentaries and courses.
I just listened to Rework I think it’s really great book. And your execution is pretty cool 😎👍
Small feedback about the player it just need some work (i.e continue playing after interruptions, and let it keep playing after close the player while looking around inside the app), and the design looks amazing really except that dock doesn’t look good but this is just my opinion. Other than that you got really amazing product great work really I wish you all the best 👏👏
@iamrsalman, thank you so much for your feedback & the support 🙌. Regarding the player, we have some improvements coming in next release, allowing you to resume watching after you close the player. Your second point is a bit lower down on our roadmap but we'll get there too 🚀. Thanks again, we really appreciate the suggestions.
@abir_hs I'm so sorry you haven't received a code, please send us an email to support@uptime.app and we can try and resolve this for you. Don't forget to provide your phone number, phone model and operating system. Thanks for your patience.
@pj_walker and Uptime team, sounds awesome and looks promising to solve the today's information overload. Congrats with the launch!
Any plans to introduce API to enable external integrations?
Thank you for your feedback and question, @vitalhead. Currently, we don't have plans to release an API for external integrations but we constantly review our roadmap and opportunities.
Thank you @paresh_rajwat! Really appreciate the feedback. Please let us know if you would like to see any particular product features or content so we can add that to our list!
@diego_alvarez5 Hi Diego, thanks for your question. We are now in 107 countries and are adding more regularly. Colombia should be on the list but do let us know if you can't access it there. Much appreciated!
Thanks Stef! We know the feeling all too well. We hope you like what you see and can use what you learn when you try Uptime 🧠 ⚡️Keep the feedback coming when you have a chance!
@asadoo93 Thanks so much for your feedback! I hope you continue to find value in what we’re doing and please don’t hesitate to send any feedback and product features/content requests so we can keep making your life easier ✨⚡️
@pj_walker absolutely boss! I'm quite excited to try that product. Let me know if you need any help with digital support to push your product. Happy to hook you up with Sendinblue 👌🏽
Thank you, Vadim! Would love your thoughts on what we’ve done on documentaries and courses too. We think the 5-min format works really well for them too - let us know what you think!
Hello! Interesting idea - could you please share a few specific points as to how it exactly differs from Blinkist (I saw that @chrismessina mentioned a certain 'editorial angle'), getAbstract and others? I really believe in the concept, hence why I would love to learn more!
Thanks for the great question. Uptime is the first company to create Knowledge Hacks with an aim to distill the essence of books, courses and documentaries, bringing these popular and notable works to a broader audience while promoting content from Amazon, Coursera, Netflix, MasterClass, LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, who all stand to benefit from this unique Hacking format.
There are a number of book summary apps you mention such as Blinkist, which focus on longer summaries targeted at an older demographic.
In a nutshell we are different because:
Our Format: There’s no other platform that creates unique micro-learning content in a visual story format built for sharing. Gen Z and Millennial audiences have shorter attention spans and are looking for concise and relevant content to help then navigate a fast-changing world.
Our Content: Each of our Knowledge Hacks from a broad array of reputable books, courses and documentaries - and diverse global authors and creators - are unique pieces of content in their own right, distilling the essence AND key actionable takeaways of each piece into expertly curated five-minute Hacks.
Our Technology: Uptime’s technology allows it to efficiently hone in on only the best and most discussed knowledge sources, and allows us to scale our content quickly without ever sacrificing the quality. Uptime personalisation engine promotes the most relevant content to our users, driving retention and repeat usage.
Our Learning Impact: Scientific research has found that people remember 10% of what they read, 20% of what they hear and 30% of what they see – but when information is presented in a way that combines these, as Uptime’s visual story hacks do – the retention rate averages 50%.
I hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any more questions.
@pj_walker as a Blinkist user I can attest to the audience, content and format points. I can see from a quick sign up that the recommendations are already far superior, range across my broad interests and will have me engaging more often than Blinkist. Well done!
Thank so much for your comment. We’re still very new but encouraged by the great feedback and enthusiasm for the format & product so far. Please keep any more thoughts coming so we can learn and improve ✨🙏🏽
Hey everyone 👋 I’m Jean, SVP of Product & Design at Uptime.
We made a special 5-min Hack of “The Product Hunt Playbook” by Nick Costelloe for this special occasion. We learned a lot from it ourselves while preparing for this launch, and of course knowledge is always better shared! Check it out here https://to.uptime.app/ph.
Would love to hear your feedback and thoughts about this Hack and our app. Thank you so much!
Hey PH 👋️ and thanks @chrismessina for hunting us! 🎉 We’re thrilled to share Uptime with you.
Did you know? Every year, more than 2 million books 📚 are released, and thousands of courses and documentaries go online. The selection is so large, if a person was to read one book a day, it would take them over 365,000 years to read them all! We live in a world where, with the entirety of the world’s knowledge in the palm of our hands, we’ve never had so much access to information. Yet largely, we don’t!
We are drowning in information and thirsting for knowledge.
On a personal note, after 10 years as an executive at YouTube and Facebook, I wanted to help build a place for safe, curated learning that’s also fun and memorable -- and I met some amazingly talented people who felt the same! So we got together and built Uptime 🚀.
We offer “Knowledge Hacks” — which distill into bitesize visual stories the very best books, documentaries and courses from the world’s most inspiring minds — all from sources you can trust.
Uptime in a nutshell:
✅ Authors and creators you know and trust
✅ Curated topics which matter most to you
✅ 5-min story format to save your time and have fun learning
🧠 Watch, listen & read modes scientifically proven to be more memorable
📵 No fake news, no ads
📵 No doom scrolling
📵 No fluff
Where you come in:
👉 We’re on a mission to help people gain easy access to the world’s best knowledge and thrive in a fast-changing world, because knowledge is power.
We’re thrilled today to announce that we’re live on both iOS and Android with over 1,500 Knowledge Hacks and are adding more than 30 per week.
During our initial launch, all of our content is free, but we’ll be introducing the Uptime Subscription soon. We’d love for the PH community to come check it out and get early access to help us decide which Hacks to build next. For those sign up first, you’ll have access to our best subscription offer when we transition to our subscription model.
We’ll be here all day to answer your questions and receive your feedback! Please comment below and follow us on Instagram @uptime.app.
🥰 A sincere thank you from our entire team from around the world:
