Why did games reminiscent of the 80s become popular on Twitter?
After Levelsio started posting about his latest project on Twitter, other creators started following him.
They created a game that resembles a Minecraft/Sims hybrid, where they offer sponsorship.
In itself, this can have an audience and be interesting for two reasons:
– nostalgia (memories)
– gaming (a kind of leisure time activity)
So what makes this game special and why is this trend spreading so quickly?
After all, something like this has been around before – for example, Cryptovoxels from the Web 3.0 & NFT era.
Is it because Levelsio is well-known and any of his projects have a chance of success? Or is it really something special? How do you see it?

a combination of things:
a well-known indie maker
with a large following
a pretty cool game
free options
it's short
so, why not?

@taniabell well, I need to admit that I haven't tried the game yet because I am afraid once I would start, I would be addicted (as it was in the case of Minecraft for me) :D
Product Hunt
It'sn't reminiscent of the '80s; it's more like blocky and Minecrafty, but minecraft was released on 2011 lol. 80's games were more like this:
Original Maniac Mansion
I play a lot of indie games where the graphics are definitely not the main attraction point. Sometimes its the story, sometimes its the playability, the mechanics, or just the experience as a whole.
In the case of Levelsio's game, it's an MMO flight sim made entirely by AI! (You can play it here for free.) So that is cool. People are iterating and making branches on it and adding their personal touches. Shows that everyone can code (at least a bit :P) today!

@juan I know, but those blocks remind me the Mortal Kombat vibe (in early 90s) :D
That's true, I could also code something (I just lack some good idea – "Detail"). LOL
Streak Hunter
Is this viral game riding Levelsio's fame, or does it offer something genuinely new that previous Minecraft/Sims hybrids didn't? Time will tell.

@denisss TBH, I haven't seen something similar related to flying. Maybe on PS1 or 2 we used to have.

Nika, be honest - are you actually human? :)
You post so frequently with fresh ideas that it feels almost supernatural!
What's your secret?

@serge_neskoromny Hey Serge, thank you so much! :D Yes, for now, I use AI only for grammar correction :D the ideas sometimes come from nowhere (and sometimes from current events). :)
Shift
Cause he has a large following and also cause he claimed the game was literally made by cursor which already had a big hype around it with the recent updates

@ehsan_javanbakht His reputation was the first thing that came to my mind. But didn't know that Cursor is so popular. I have read like people weren't satisfied with that solution. Probably I missed these good reviews. 😅
Shift
@busmark_w_nika Yeah he claimed he made majority of the game with cursor alone and that was a big reason it was interesting and went viral.
As society continues to evolve and become more complex, it seems people are drawn more to simpler and more primitive things, just like how Y2K became a trend.

@kay_arkain I would say that right now, evolution happens... but in the opposite direction. :D
