How/what did you start posting on Twitter/LinkedIn to grow your audience?

I have potentially a lot of things I could talk about but I don't know where to start. Should I focus on something specific or be broader initially? How did you guys do it?

On Twitter I have seen Memes and Posting something related to currently trending hashtags work well. On LinkedIn Corporate Puns or Memes, Infographics, Data, Achievements and Failures work well.
