Ulysses 20 — Writing app with grammar & style check in over 20 languages

Ulysses is a writing app for Mac, iPad and iPhone. With this release, it gains the dashboard — a sidebar that serves as a statistics panel, a navigator, a comments section, a media overview, and an advanced grammar- and style check in over 20 languages.

Hello everyone, My name is Max and I’m the co-founder of Ulysses, the writing app for Mac, iPad and iPhone. I’m in this for a while already, as we started out with Ulysses when I was still in highschool, and you may even have seen us here before with earlier releases. However, this release is one I’m particularly excited about, as it adds an entirely new function: a comprehensive grammar- and style check (Mac only atm). While other services of this kind only support English, ours is available for over 20 languages. Moreover, we’re introducing the dashboard, a new sidebar that consolidates many Ulysses features in a single spot, e.g., keywords, text statistics, annotations, footnotes, and, on Mac, grammar- and style check. Another mentionable part of the dashboard is the outline, which lists all headings in a hierarchical order, but also embedded images, links and more. With the outline, users can not only get an overview of their text’s structure, but also navigate directly to all elements and edit them, if necessary. We would love to hear your thoughts and your feedback about this release! Thanks for having us! Max

@macguru17 - Been using Ulysses for my writing for years now and this looks like another super update. A native Grammarly integration would be awesome though. Thanks.

@tallguyruman Thanks a lot! Unfortunately, Grammarly does not have a public API at the moment. It also supports only English, whereas LanguageTool (which we use) does over 20 languages. We're still open for an integration though, should anyone from Grammarly read this 😉

I've been using Ulysses for over a year now. Made a big difference for me. It's my go-to writing app now. I was only missing a Grammar check. Good to see it's added now! It would be great to integrate Grammarly as well.

@dariusforoux Thank you for your kind words! Grammarly does not have a public API to integrate with, at least for now. We will keep an eye out, though we think the current solution is quite powerful already.

Used Ulysses for many years, it continues to mature as all good software should do over time. I use it for all my writing, from short stories, novels, to daily chores, email, meeting notes. Of all the software I use it is in top 5 must have applications to function in a digital space.

I've used Ulysses for many years, and it has continued to grow from strength-to-strength. I have used it for writing short articles, reports and have published books that were written in Ulysses. It's flexibility and ease of use make it one of the best writing tools on the market.

I don't/won't subscribe to any product that I depend on for my work. Services are great, but when it comes down to it, when I work I want to have full control over my tools. I don't use Ulysses any longer for that reason and won't use Office 365 for the same reason. Ulysses may be good, but there are better products, one being Mellel. Fortunately, Ulysses enabled me to return to basics and use tools that I've used for years instead of the new kid on the block.
