Hello Product Hunt ๐,
So excited to be releasing first 1000 today. First 1000 at its core is a weekly newsletter about how companies got their first 1000 customers. How did companies get from 0->0.25. Each week we cover a new company, and try to uncover a new strategy/hustle/hack that those founders have leveraged to get the wheels going.
To give you a little taste, here are some of the stories we covered
Slice -> and how its founder turned his company into a fax-orders generation machine to sign his first pizzerias
Spotify->and how they managed to create the โillusionโ of a better product to win early customers.
Bloomberg->and how he made morning coffee runs to land his first enterprise client.
Zumper ->and how they developed a tool to generate leads from their competitors.
Stitch Fix -> and how they launched their company without a landing page
we even a teardown on Product Hunt ๐.
I have some FANTASTIC INTERVIEWS lined up for the month of April and can't wait to have you all onboard.
Hit me up with any questions
@ali_abou_el_atta Congrats on your PH launch Ali๐ฅณ
I have been a fan of First 1000 for a while now and it is by far one of the best newsletters that I look forward to every week.
A perfect combination of valuable growth insights in the least amount of time.
Keep them coming๐
Congrats on your launch Ali, saw you first on Newsletter Geeks and love your content. BTW what tool do you use for referral? (I'm this close to implement my own internal tool)
This is so awesome! Especially since I am going through these struggles now. Feel free to reach out for feedback in a couple weeks after Iโve gotten some emails.
Iโm a long-time reader and fan @ali_abou_el_atta. So much so that I was recently toying with the idea of commissioning you to research the company/product Iโm trying to displace with my own. have you considered this as part of the business model?
Signing up as well! That sounds like one of only a few newsletters that actually provide a lot of value. Although I would also be curious to learn more about early acquisition strategies of the "mid-sector". Not only the big companies and unicorns, but also the ones in the middle, that might not be super big, but are still doing really well.
@sarahxjo Roger that! For the next two issues actually we are interviewing YC companies from the batch of W21...not quite the midmarket u r looking for but will do my best...Any company comes to mind when u think of "mid-sector"? I have covered companies like Convertkit, Zapier, Tara.ai, Snackpass, Linear, Slice and DoNotPay which I hope is more of what you are looking for (?) Curious to hear your thoughts
@vasgo its a mix of all three. For example the Bloomberg issue, I read his three biography books to put it together. Airbnb, Uber, Doordash was very research intensive. Tara, Pageflows and DoNotPay were interviews...
Have subscribed to the newsletter. An eloquent new entry to Product Hunt on that most vital of subject - customer acquisition. Case studies are thought-provoking and immersive. Thanks so much for the information.
This newsletter encompasses a great mixture of delivery and length. Unique and not long so you stay focused till the end. One of my favorite weekly subscriptions!
Hello @ali_abou_el_atta Just subscribed and have already read the SnapChat case study. Great stuff and attractive site/format. Perhaps one day sellff.com might make your list. We just launched on PH and HN this past week and have our "first 300." All the best to you and your product :-)
Finding the first 1000 customers is an important, under-reported part of the startup journey to which Ali has devoted considerable thought. The result is this tactical, easy-to-read knowledge base. Bravo Ali!
As a substack writer myself (@consumerstartups), I can confidently vouch for First1000. Great content - ali puts in many hours each week to put together a case study on early customer acquisition strategies. This is a newsletter you have to follow if you are an early-stage founder looking for more growth levers.
