Truecaller's iPhone app has been completely re-written from the ground up to be lighter, more efficient, but most important of all, 10 times better spam, scam and business call identification compared to previous versions of the app.

Hello everyone! I am Nakul Kabra and I lead #TruecallerforiPhone. We recently launched a brand new version of the app which has been rewritten from the ground up and I'm here to talk more about it. For those who don't know about Truecaller, we help people safeguard themselves against scams & harassment by providing Caller ID & Spam Blocking. We currently have more than 320 million monthly active users around the world across iOS & Android. While we're very popular & successful on Android, our iPhone experience was very limited. Few months back, we made it our mission to change that and started rethinking the product & the tech behind it. With this, we rewrote the app entirely using SwiftUI + Combine + async/await. This has helped ease development + uses the best of what’s available in the Apple developer ecosystem. This has helped reduce developer build times, app startup times & even the app size. The app is now 30% lighter and more than 50% faster. From a product perspective, we revamped the entire app with most focus on getting Caller ID right, especially when it comes to Spam & Business calls - since these make up more than 50% of the unknown calls. Unlike Android, where we can guarantee Caller ID most of the time, on iOS that capability is limited. Apple has provided CallKit, a framework for Caller ID apps to identify Phone calls. We have now updated our spam detection algorithms & are harnessing this framework's ability to identify as many calls as possible. We use CallKit in every possible way to maximise the Caller ID experience. We’ve increased the Call Directory sizes + reduced latencies in the APIs and client side processing of data. Our solution works with the default Phone app as an extension on top of it. So you'll see results from Truecaller in your Phone app too. We've optimized it best for 4 types of calls: 🚨 Spam - Numbers that have been marked as Spam in the Truecaller community are identified with a red beacon. ✅ Verified Business - Numbers that have been verified by Truecaller are marked with a green check. 📲 Truecaller Users - Calls from Truecaller Android users are identified with a mobile icon. 🔎 Searched Numbers - Most calls that go unidentified can be manually searched on Truecaller. Once searched, repeated calls from the same number are identified with a search icon. We are constantly improving the product to help people combat the menace of spam calls. We're soon launching many features including a much better version of SMS Filtering so that you filter your SMS better using Truecaller. I would love to get your ideas on this update. Thank you!

is this app not selling user data?
Nakul Kabra
@heni_hazbay That's a common misconception - Truecaller does not sell user data and never has. Truecaller's main mission is to make communication safer and more efficient for everyone. That's why the core features of Truecaller (Caller ID and Search) have always been completely free and unrestricted for everyone, globally. Truecaller earns revenues in three (and only these three ways): 1. In app advertising (discreet ads, banners. They don't take over the phone screen. No political or suggestive ads accepted) 2. Premium subscriptions (power users who want extra features and no ads can pay a small fee) 3. Truecaller for Business (large businesses who regularly reach out to their customers can pay Truecaller to get 'verified'. This means they get to lock their name in so that users can't change it. They get to show their company logo and a 'verified by Truecaller' logo to Truecaller Android users. Plus they get a verified badge that is shown to all.
