Hello Product Hunt! Anna here, and I am one of the makers of Trove, an AI-powered financial intelligence API that helps you enrich banking transactions with important details like business names, websites, and spending categories. It’s a tool a few of us at Headline VC have been developing for a while, and we’re finally ready to reveal it to you! ❓Why did we build this, you ask? Let me start you off with a little personal story time 📜 I am an avid subscriber to all my banking charge alerts, thanks to a few memorable incidents with cyber theft and fraudulent charges. (One time, I got stuck cashless abroad after someone withdrew all my balance from my travel checking account 💸). Then, one day, an unfamiliar charge alert came through. I looked at the transaction descriptors, and it didn’t resemble any company I knew or had made a purchase from that day. So, I called up the credit card company and reported the transaction as fraud. A couple of days later, I received an email from a small online shop I had actually bought from, explaining that they had issues with the payment and had to cancel the shipment. On top of that, they had to pay extra chargeback fees to the payment processor due to my dispute—it was quite unpleasant for a small business. Have you ever had similar experiences—looking through your bank statement and having absolutely no idea where some charges came from? The banking transaction descriptors can be confusing and often bear little resemblance to the business’s name. Now imagine this problem on a larger scale for businesses, payment processors, and even banks—they spend hours and 💰 trying to identify fraud and categorize spending. Now, we want to give that superpower to you—the makers! Test out our API on our site, in your terminal, or even with Postman. We want Trove to help you unlock incredible treasure finds! To summarize—what can you achieve with Trove? - 🕵️ Identify fraudulent charges - 🚫 Avoid accidental chargebacks - 🗂️ Categorize spending - 🧠 Build creative solutions with transaction metadata - 🆓 And yes, it’s all for free!

Amazing product! And so cool that you made it free!

This is exactly what I needed for my fintech side project! 🎯 Those cryptic transaction descriptors have been driving me nuts (and definitely filed a few wrong fraud reports myself - oops!). Love that it's available as an API and the fact that it's free is just icing on the cake. Already thinking of all the cool ways to integrate this into my expense tracking app. The demo on the site is super clean too. Instant upvote! ⚡️

@_ivan1 thank you so much for the supportive words Ivan! We would love to see what you will build and perhaps integrate into a future product showcase page on our site!

Massive congrats to the Trove team on today's launch! can you share a quick example of how a fintech developer could leverage Trove's API to surprise users with, say, personalized merchant recommendations based on their spending habits?
Anna Wu
@ihuzaifashoukat Hi Huzaifa! Thank you for the support and the great question - if I understood you correctly, you would like to build something like for example, if an user spend $ dining at Chipotle, you would like to make personalized recommendations for other similar restaurants? So Trove can definitely help you with the first part of this solution, for example: 1. request the API to enrich example user's transactions say for the past month 2. store all the enriched results in your db, make sure to save the sanitized company names, domains and categories in separate columns 3. tally up the top merchants for this example user 4. find the top similar/competitors for these merchants (this is the step would need more work as competitor data can be hard to source, you can always start with a search like "top Chipotle alternatives" etc) 5. push the customized recommendations to user - with Trove enriched and sanitized results you have stored, you would be able to summarize stats for the users like "Hey, we noticed you have visited Chipotle 7 times the last month spending over $XX, here is another place we thought you may like similar to Chipotle!" Hope this is a helpful example!

Interesting mix of audience. IS this mostly targeted at the developer that brings it into a "finantial agent" or B2D directly as the consumer?
Anna Wu
@jalcantara Hi Jorge! We purposefully made this product flexible for both uses - independent developers can use the tool to make direct to consumer product like budget tracking apps, or established companies can integrate into their existing workflows for things like expense categorizations. If you have any specific ideas in mind - would love to hear more and see how we can help you to explore the uses cases as well!
Kevan Ho
Anna, great job to you and the team. Love that it's FREE and even tho it's an API, it's got personality :) Will usage be throttled at any point?
Anna Wu
@kevan_ho thanks for the question Kevan! We currently set a 100 requests per minute rate limit for our users - but if you have special needs that goes beyond this feel free to contact us at support@headline.com and we can discuss potential batch requests processing!
