Awesome, but, where's this info coming from? Setting a new VC vetting standards by getting startups to volunteer accurate info, publicly, or sourcing otherwise for other purposes? Hope this takes hold, if it's the former! @rafapaez_
@elizabethhunker Thanks Elizabeth! I've already answered (twice) your first question - please read the other comments ;). I don't have plans to set a new VC myself :D but you made me think...
Your hockey stick projections can now be based in the revenue reality of today's firms! Fantastic information for both investors and startup entrepreneurs.
@jamie_mci Thanks Jamie. I strongly believe that being transparent is good for everyone: customers, employees, founders, investors, etc. Glad to hear more people share the same values.
Improving transparency early and often is always a great idea! Revenue is often the most difficult metric to track and aggregate across startups so really good place to start. This would be a great addition to Angel.co data and other sites already mentioned. Subscribed!
@henrikharju I assume you meant MRR? Initially I thought about calling it MRR but, depending of the product and other factors, for some startups their Revenue is recurrent but not for others. So I think is more generic to just call it "Monthly Revenue". Maybe I should add the possibility to specify this as a note.
Edit: Ok, got it. I need to find a way to display it on the List View as well ;)
No "stealth" numbers here - love this site and it's very valuable if you are doing financial models for or working in a start up. One question, how do you validate the numbers?
@love2golf Hey Margaret! As mentioned in a previous comment, most of the startups publish monthly reports with nice details about their revenues and expenses. Obviously we cannot guarantee they're 100% correct but I don't believe any founder will spend their time in making up those numbers month by month.
On another hand, the rest of the startups that are not publishing reports are however on Baremetrics' Open Startups, which I believe is totally validated.
I guess it might be other mechanisms to validate these numbers. Any suggestions?
Interesting.I've always been keen to see what startups solving simple solutions are earning. It seems perfectly possible for a single developer to solve a simple solution and make a decent living from what I see.... How do you validate the data provided?
@anesu_fitzgerald_muzenda Most of the startups featured on the site publish on their blog revenue or growth reports on a monthly basis. On the "INCOME REPORTS" table, just below the charts, you could see the link to their reports for each month.
Recently I implemented an admin Metrics Form to allow founders to manage their own figures every month. I've seen many of them started to use it to add Septembers' numbers.
Thanks for your feedback!
Hi everyone!
I'm Rafa, the maker of Transparent Startups.
I'm always looking for Startup inspiration and I love learning from entrepreneurs that managed to build a growing and profitable tech startup, especially from those that started them as a side project. I truly believe in business transparency and I usually spend a lot of my spare time researching about it.
There are a lot of bloggers that openly publish monthly income reports and a few aggregators of them but I couldn't find a similar place for actual Tech Startups with SaaS products. For that reason, I built Transparent Startups: to collect these businesses and founders that are embracing Transparency by sharing everything with the world, including their revenue numbers and growth journeys so others can learn and be inspired.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Wow, very impressive work. It's just a suggestion, but you have to be very careful with publishing financial data. Uncertain publication can make you a lots of trouble. Best regards and good luck.
@marcinodchyl1 Thanks Marcin. All the data published on the site is obtained from public sources of financial information, either coming from the founders' online Income Reports or from Baremetrics' Open Startups. All the links to the original information are on the startup profiles.
@edvinsantonovs Indeed Indie Hackers and Transparent Startups are similar but also very different as well. IH brings great inspiring one-time interviews with developers that are making a business from their passion. TS aims to be the place for startups and entrepreneurs that truly believe in transparency and are living this value from the heart, proving monthly follow-ups with real transparent revenue numbers and inspiring growth stories.
Great thanks for your comment!
@rafapaez_ Yeah, I can definitely agree with that. Just subscribed to the newsletter, hopefully to see a lot of interesting stuff delivered to my email. Good luck with it.
@edvinsantonovs Many thanks mate. I'm still working on the newsletter but I can say there are two new startups about to be featured and a lot of fresh monthly updates coming!
