Threema is a wonderful app for having secure end-to-end encrypted messaging with whomever you wish to speak with. While I haven't used it all that much personally, as many of my friends use more conventional messengers like Whatsapp & Facebook Messenger, Threema is widely used by professionals dealing with confidential issues with far-reaching impact should their conversations be intercepted, such as in the case of Lawyers & Reporters.

@loniuk Not the same type of encryption. Telegram is only end-to-end encrypted when using "Secure Chats". Threema is always end to end encrypted.

I am wondering why should I use this instead of Telegram? So far from what I have read, is the ID behind my chats - no phone number req. But I could setup Telegram with a burner. Mmmh - I am not quite sure why I should choose Threema....

@matiast The difference — from what I know — is that the Telegram is not end to end encrypted the same way (Telegram is only end to end encrypted when using Secure Chats). With Threema you can not access your details from more than one device (except for the same way that WhatsApp does, with the phone having to be online as a relay). Telegram, your keys are stored in the cloud and decrypted with your password when you login on a new device.
