While reading this book, it felt like you were reading the story of two childhood friends who are just thoroughly and genuinely, without any hidden feelings or agenda, enjoying each other's company and openly sharing their experiences. His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu are both recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize and revolutionary figures who championed the cause of their people, and thus became renowned worldwide. They talk about "Joy" in such simplistic and independent terms it is hard not to stop everything, take a step back and just think about how it applies to your life. Who can you show gratitude to? Who can you forgive? How can you be generous today? Extremely basic but profound thoughts and pillars on how to build a joyful life - written beautifully by Douglas Abrams. He interspersed the teachings with real life anecdotes to demonstrate practicality of these teachings, and continues to keep the readers in mind - understanding well enough that not everyone can be The Holiness and an Archbishop, but how can we still internalize their teachings.
