TeamSpirit is an app that works with any conferencing platform to track your talk/listen ratio during meetings, the elapsed time of a meeting, and the current time.
TeamSpirit helps you stay on track, end meetings on time, and even curb rambling. πŸ˜‰

@mattbwaite Thank you!
Michael Goldstrom
Brilliant. As a talker, I greatly appreciate this, and will see... how it goes...
Shannon Anderson
@goldstrom Thank you! We'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts after trying it!
Michael Goldstrom
@shanander so - absolutely fascinating. it's both thrilling and inhibitory - which is the point. You end up staring at that number.... seeing where you're at. And if you're a talker, you're utterly shocked thinking - how the fk is that 49% already? I find it to be an absolutely fascinating experience. So thank you. Question - I'm 90% sure I was talking more than 80% for this one meeting, but it stopped at 60%. Does it stop... to prevent embarrassment, or does it just give up - "there's nothing I can do here."
Ethan Petersen
@goldstrom thank you for the feedback! Right now, it ignores short utterances which has pros/cons: it doesn't penalize for active listening, but it doesn't acknowledge when it's someone's "turn" in a conversation and they're preparing a thought but not speaking. We are hoping to push an update that tracks nuances a bit better, as we're likely missing some stuff! Also, we pushed a new version (1.2) that has some quality-of-life updates late last night that might be helpful if you're on 1.1.
Michael Goldstrom
@ethan_petersen I can't tell which version I'm using, but I downloaded it today. It's a very simple, superb idea that no matter what is a powerful starting point for the nature of conversation. I'm not sure what the consequences are of using it just yet but it brings up a lot of emotional stuff which I think is valuable. On the one hand it takes you out of the flow of the conversation, but on the other hand that's the point. It raises the question of what is a meaningful conversation? Is it a 50/50 exchange of words? That doesn't seem right because we communicate differently, some people prefer to talk less and others more. But some of us, in particular those of us with ADHD, can lose track of time when talking, or follow a divergent train of thought, and the other person's politeness may not bring us back. Or perhaps they're enthralled by what you're saying. Or both! Anyway, thank you for making it, I love how something so small can be so powerful.
Shannon Anderson
@goldstrom Hi Michael! I am SO excited to hear your feedback! I, myself, have ADHD and tend to have several divergent trains of thought during meetings. Ethan is very polite which, consequently, causes him to have very little air time to express his ideas. Since making TeamSpirit, I've been much more conscientious about my talk time and found that Ethan has a lot of excellent thing to say β€” when I actually give him a chance to talk. I've noticed on our calls that he feels a lot happier when I'm not constantly dominating the conversation and cutting him off. In settings, we added the ability to control when the talk/listen ratio warning turns red so you can adjust it to 25% for meetings with 4 people, 20% for meetings with 5 people, etc. We understand there are different types of meetings too where the talk time split isn't going to be an even split (like status update meetings). So, you have the ability to adjust this if needed! We're going to be adding an easier way to adjust it soon so stay tuned! :)

@shanander Loving this app so far and thinking about it a fair amount recently. I think adding the ability to specify the number of attendees on a call or pull dynamically from Zoom or other conferencing apps could be really helpful with the ability to manually override if there are people on the call who aren't active participants. You could use this to gauge what an equitable "talking time" should be to adjust the 50% assumed baseline.

Thanks @kevin for hunting us! Hey Product Hunt! πŸ‘‹ During our meetings at smileML, I have a tendency to ramble and cause meetings to run long 😳, whereas my co-founder, @ethan_petersen, is very punctual and concise. I asked him to create TeamSpirit to help me stop rambling and making him late to meetings scheduled after ours. With the world transitioning to remote work and video calls, we wanted to share this tool instead of keeping it all to ourselves. I really love TeamSpirit because it shows me how long I've been talking vs listening and gives a friendly reminder when I need to wrap it up. It also shows elapsed time to help me stay on track. Now, I no longer have those "Oh shoot! I just spent 8 minutes talking about something that should've taken 2 minutes!" moments. This transition has been tough, but TeamSpirit can make it easier by helping you stay on track and end your meetings on time. We're excited to be launching TeamSpirit on Mac for free! We're also launching TeamSpirit Pro later this week! We're reducing the price of TeamSpirit Pro from $4.99/month to $0.99/month during this period of social distancing to support remote work. Want TeamSpirit for Windows? Subscribe to our upcoming page to receive updates and early access! https://www.producthunt.com/upco... I'm happy to answer any questions and would love to hear what you think! Cheers, Shannon

@brittany_ware Thank you! I feel the same, it's been nice to see exactly what the number is, I found that I was talking for way less than I thought I was.

Shannon, Ethan - wow is this useful for us @targetarm. Super effective for our virtual calls many times a day. It has soooooo much potential for evaluating conversations on the fly to meet goals, stay on track, maximize time, etc. I'm so proud of the two of you since I met you this Spring at Techstars. Go @SmileML!

THIS! Would have come handy at so many calls in my lifetime πŸ˜‚
