Push notifications are hard since a lot of us view them as annoying forms of communication. Every marketer should be armed with the basics and this is it!
Pros:
A lot great examples in here! I personally use Hopper and never miss a flight because of heir push notifications!
Cons:
Not every push example is in here, but then again that's hard to
Very cool – thanks for sharing all this data and best practices.
Was wondering if you have any thoughts around actions from push notifications?
I certainly snooze alarms, archive emails and from time to time respond to messages using PN actions (on iOS) – but is it investing in that experience? Are a lot of people using it?
@ngardideh Hey Nima! Great question - we're finding that it removes a lot of friction and improves the overall user experience by attaching custom actions that are most relevant to the push you're sending. That's certainly something our customers have been leveraging with our transactional push notification product with custom payloads.
@arpitgupta As a Wayfair user, I LOVE how you're engaging your user base, especially with the rich push notifications to stand out from the other noise. I'm curious of the personas that your team has created and how do you speak to them?
Technical Product here at Taplytics! Really exciting to see this work put into concise, shareable information. What really stands out to me is the focus not on simply increasing engagement, but rather the focus on giving users push notifications that they actually want. This isn't about driving up numbers, its about ensuring your users are engaged and satisfied with your app or service.
For me, the Amazon Shopping app, as well as Opus Labs' Delta are the best at achieving this. Information is sent to me at relevant times, with information that I actually want to read and take action on. Yelp is really good at understanding my preferences as well when sending me recommendations of new restaurants -- I've admittedly gone to their recommended new restaurants multiple times just due to their app notifications and when they send it (a couple of hours before I'm hungry...).
The data team at Taplytics has been diving in deep with push notifications to find what truly is the best way to engage your users. As automation takes over, the personal touch gets lost, so we're focusing on making sure that messaging automation doesn't take away that human feel. Keep an eye out for us as we release more of our insights into the world!
Thanks for the support on Product Hunt today! We were really excited to put this Ebook together as a way to continually help brands create better mobile experiences for you.
As mobile grows, push notifications are a ‘bonus’ channel to bring further value to customers. Unfortunately, some brands aren’t aware of the evolution of notifications, and are using them in the same old spammy fashion.
We’re all suffering from push notification fatigue, and brands who are able to determine what information is truly valuable and when are the ones who will create the best possible experience for their users!
We'd love to hear what you think hear about our observations and your experience with push notifications - Do they align with where you find real value from pushes? Which brands do you think do the best job at providing real value?
Hopper is my personal favourite as an example in the book - their pushes are catered to my personal preferences, and full of precise, valuable information that gives me a clear motivation to open the app and engage.
Delivering an amazing experience for your buyer should be top of mind of all forward-thinking brands. Push notifications are unique in that they can be used to serve the customer in so many different points of their journey - you can congratulate them on reaching an important customer milestone or let them know when their favorite show is back on. Engagement is a critical piece in building that relationship with your customer, which can be enabled with timely, personalized push notifications.
