We had a number of hypotheses that we set out to test about data engineering, and recorded the results of those tests in The State of Data Engineering. In particular, we wanted to understand how many data engineers exist in the market today, what is common among their backgrounds and core skill sets, and whether there might be some info that would help us in hiring experienced or aspiring data engineers. Combined with input we collected from engineering team leaders at Stripe, MIT, Looker and Galvanize, we think this report presents a clear snapshot of the current state of data engineering.
